During one of my "off-times" at work, I was unexpectedly asked to do a demonstration for a VIP. I was all shaky and it was embarrassing. Is there any fast-acting L-dopa injectable or inhalant that I can take in an emergency? It usually takes Sinemet 30-60 minutes to kick in.

there are tablets that dissolve in your mouth but the l-dopa doesn't get absorbed in your mouth, these are for people that have trouble swallowing tablets. sometimes a fizzy drink with a little sugar speeds up the stomach emptying a little but 30minutes is about as quick as i've experienced. |

One way to come "on" quickly is to inject apomorphine. It is "usually effective within 10 minutes" [1].
As it happens, apomorphine is not something that I'd want to take: partly I'm put off by the injection; and partly by the feeling that I'd be more tied to the drugs; as it is, I can still function well enough to walk home if I forget my meds. But, everyone's circumstances are different, so apomorphine is probably appropriate for some people. I find that going for a walk relieves many of the symptoms. Stress makes them worse. Yes there is an injectable that helps in a 1/2 hour. Unfortunately I do not know the name. Your MDS should be able to help you out Damon |

Here we have Madopar Rapid (taken orally) which as the name suggests is rapid when a quick rescue is needed.
Im assuming you are in U.S. where there is or used to be liquid Sinemet which was virtually the same, is it still available? If so from what I gather it works very fast like the Madopar rapid we have only downfall is rapid on but then it doesn't last as long as the tablet form. Ask your neuro if they have a quick rescue type of levodopa like that. |
