How long have you been on carb/levo and is your new med still helping. Newly diagnosed and trying to find level to control tremors. What is Pramipexole? Thank you Ellis Mae

MIRTAZAPINE 15 mg once daily at bedtime. My other meds are as follows;

Levo/carb 100/25 mg 4 times daily
Pramipexole o.25 mg 3 times daily

The N'gist has had similar results with other patients.

I hope this info helps. I'm 73 with advanced PD and I FEEL GREAT - so far.

Been on LevoCarb since 05 or 06 and the others since July of 2014 or thereabouts. It appears that I am one of the lucky ones that tolerates some of the side effects of the the other meds. The tremors, at this point, are almost non existent.. On the rare occasion (while I'm sleeping) the tremors will wakes me up but this is controlled with a sleeping pill or a sedative (Ativan).. This sounds stupid but I have no idea what the Pramipexole does, but the combo seems to work well for me.

A year and a half ago, my symptoms were so severe ( a week of non stop violent tremors along with no sleep and immobility) that I attempted to end it all and failed. This prompted my medical care givers to try some med combinations that had worked with some other patients and IT WORKED FOR ME.

As a recently diagnosed PD patient, read all you can and somehere in this forum there may be a combination of meds that give you some relief and for sure, there is a lot of unseen supporters for you to lean on when the going gets tough, and maybe, just maybe, the cure is going to be found.

We all hope for success with your treatment and you find something to let you live a close to normal life like I have..

HarryM.

Cool I must have needed to vent!

Thank for your information. I've been doing considerable "lurking" to read the posts. They are most helpful. I'm still in the "testing" phase to rule out other issues but my neuro doc seems fairly certain. I'd been on primidone 2 tabs 50 mg at night for tremors. Since we've been investigating the increase in tremors all this other "stuff" pops up. I tried Azilect for 8 days with some relief - still driving at that point. I asked if we could get the tremors under control and stared 1/2 tab cardo/levo 25 100 2x's daily then after weeks increase to 3x's daily. Boy did I shake the next day with getting off Azilect. Maybe it helped more than I realized! At night take 2 primidone 50 mg each and my simvistation 20 mg. Up to one tab 25 100 c/l three times a day. I do take Percocet and yes some of us don't abuse it! When the pain gets really bad. It seems to help and makes me calmer. Everyone seems so supportive here. I'm in Ohio and have decided to ask my neuro doc to refer me to OSU Wexner Center for movement and disorders. The irony is I was just semi-retiring and found this out. Wasn't even in my wheelhouse 4 months ago!
I'm in fairly decent health overall. I have a history of Crohn's disease but thank God is controlled now - no meds either!! Your information is most helpful. I think my anxiety would decrease if the tremors can be controlled too. I know what you mean about shaking apart. I have a member of our congregation who was in a nursing home - couldn't eat - thought this was the end her new neuro doc put her on Stelevo and Topamax and she's been symptom free for 10 years - lots of other issues though but not from pd or meds apparently. Another gentleman just had DBS done. Not sure how long he's had it though. So I have two good examples close to speak with.
Thank you again for your info - I must have needed to vent!

Venting is good USUALLY. I get my self so worked up when I vent, that it sets off the Tremors BIG TIME so for that reason I try just to grin and bare it. Turn the other cheek and so on.

Paranoia has been a problem for me. I quit watching football on TV because when the players were in a huddle, I was sure they were talking about me.
(not true, just a misguided attempt at humor)

Cool Smirk Good afternoon!

Glad you can find levity! I'm hoping my humor eventually returns.
Have a good day!
