Default ResearchKit announced at Apple conference today

If you happened to catch the Apple announcements today, you might have seen an exciting focus on new apps for research. Learn more here about the work already being done with Sage Bionetworks and MJFF and the tool Parkinsons mPower.

Also, learn more about Fox Insight (an online study sponsored by MJFF also launched today) to collect longitudinal patient reported data for research.

Default mPower plus Fox Insight

You may have seen our blog post and press release yesterday regarding Apple’s announcement of ResearchKit and MJFF’s announcement of Fox Insight – a project more than two years in the making.

The goal of Fox Insight is to gather the world’s largest collection of community-generated data about the lived experience of Parkinson’s disease directly from those living with PD (as well as controls without the disease). Conducted entirely online at foxinsight.org, this study represents a unique opportunity for anyone to participate in Parkinson’s research in the span of twenty minutes or less on a computer, mobile or tablet device. Ultimately, all data collected through Fox Insight will be made available to the research community for trend analysis, cohort identification and hypothesis generation.

Through “virtual study visits” completed every 90 days, participants will share information on their symptoms, medical history, family neurological history and quality of life. This survey data will (later this year) be complemented by objective data gathered via smartwatches as part of our existing collaboration with Intel.

Fox Insight is poised to broaden our understanding of Parkinson’s and open up new avenues of discovery to ultimately deliver improved care and new treatments to patients. If interested, you are welcome to participate by visiting www.foxinsight.org. We also encourage you to share this unique opportunity to accelerate research with your networks. Broader outreach to MJFF’s community about Fox Insight and encouragement to enroll is planned to commence April 1, the first day of Parkinson’s Awareness Month. But, feel free to go ahead and sign up now. Patients and controls are welcome.
