New Nanoparticle Treatment Aims to Reverse Parkinson's Disease Symptoms..
http://gadgets.ndtv.com/science/news...ymptoms-684686 We are surrounded by cures that are just out of reach. On the other hand, if you have a sick rat, it's in luck.

This is a pretty interesting study but I have yet to found out what happens to carbon. Does it just disintegrate?
OTOH, it confirms conclusively that the movement portion of PD is all about the dopamine. There are studies well underway to pump levodopa directly into the brain and right now that seems only a couple of years away. |

This is something you can try yourself, albeit not entirely safely.
Back in 2012 moondaughter started a thread on "DIY easy high dose anti-oxidant therapy" http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/sh...light=liposome Her post pointed to a video showing how you could make liposomes (basically nano sized globules of fat surrounding an active ingredient) of Vitamin C. I carried out an experiment (Post 6 in the thread) to determine whether this process could work for dopamine (which ordinarily cannot cross the BBB). I detected a small improvement in my tap-test results. Unfortunately, I didn't have a source of pure dopamine, and had to rely on extracting the dopamine from banana skin. With so many uncertainties the outcome was unclear. If anyone knows how to get pure dopamine, I'd be interested to know. This would allow me to repeat the experiment in a more controlled manner. I'd also appreciate any advice on how to measure the size of the liposomes produced. Does anyone have an electron microscope in their garage? (Not such a far fetched fantasy: the great advances made in technology mean that all types of previously state of the art equipment become cheap.) Other possible candidates for the liposomal route include levodopa and apomorphine. John

http://pubs.acs.org/doi/pdf/10.1021/nn506408v It's staggering to see the number of researchers involved and the depth they released. Apparently the nanoballs used have been used to pass other chemicals into the brain before and they seem to totally dissolve and release dopamine gradually. Best of all if this delivery system is already in use this could get released to phase 1 trials quickly. The really nice part is that study was open source published and financed by the Indian government, not a drug company. It's bound to actually work then. IMO, this study has legs. We all may have to "vacation" in India someday to get on this protocol. From the study .. Conflict of Interest: The authors declare no competing financial interest. Acknowledgment.
