There are lots of impressive-sounding "sciency" words there which make no sense to me as a biomedical scientist - for example I have not the faintest idea what "Stem Cell Oligopeptide with growth factors and binary products" might, if anything, mean.

I noticed that the Xicepta Facebook page removed my somewhat critical comments and questions. This is their latest post:
"Please do some research before you make judgments. Check the patent of our technology which took over 10 years for Dr. Georghe Mihaescu, a European medical scientist, to perfect. Science is advanced by visionaries and it's usually the close-minded people who remain at the tail end of science. We don't criticize people who use bleeding and leeches to cure a disease; our focus is on how we can develop science-based products that can truly help alleviate issues. We invite people with Parkinson's disease to try Agitan X and if within 30 days you don't feel any effects, please let us know. We would gladly give your money back. That is how confident we are of our products." As someone who tries just about any therapy with a reasonable story, this is the first to promise my money back and, lord knows, I've blown a lot of money on this malady! I'll let everyone know the results in a month.

I went to the Xicepta office yesterday and met with the CEO and one of the Dr's. They offered to GIVE me a 60 day supply and all they ask is that I self report my results. They are currently getting ready to launch a clinical trial - but as for now asking people to self-report. They have also applied for funding from the MJFF. Everyone has to start somewhere, right?
Like Gerry, I have also spent a mini fortune on supplements and treatments for PD. I'm open to try new things. This may not do anything for me, but it just may.. I'm going to give it a try. I didn't leave the office with the product - it is mixed with whey which I am allergic to. So, the are mixing up a new batch for me with soy in lieu of whey - I pick it up on Monday. |

Just because someone posts a piece of paper that looks like a medical license on a wall doesn't mean it is one....as they say, "trust, but verify" I know someone who hired an architect and paid them lots of money to design their home, only to find out later he wasn't one. He had a business card listing himself as an architect and everything, and his justification for the lie was that he "almost" was an architect, as he had taken all the classes and been drawing and designing houses for awhile, and had only failed a "tiny part" of the architect exam. I look almost everyone up now, most states have licensing boards for just about everything and most are online. |

Yes - I totally agree with all of you. They could be total crackpots. I'm not defending them, I'm skeptical too, but I'm willing to take a risk and give it a try.
As for the reason they mix it with protein - it's to make it more of a shake/meal, they also have a pill form without the protein, it's the patients preference. They told me they will soon put together a clinical trial with about 30 people. And they did offer to give me a 60 day supply. They did not ask me for any payment. Years ago I had H. pylori (yes, I'm aware of the link with PD), I was very sick and had massive stomach pains - I went through all the antibiotics and was rid of the H. pylori but still had the stomach pain, horrible digestion, constipation, diarrhea, eating was painful - all of it. Someone suggested I take some products from a multilevel marketing company. Of course I was leery, skeptical and thought the whole thing was a scam, but I was desperate to feel better. You know what - they worked. I took them for about a year and to this day my digestion is better than it ever way before. |

imho if they really had something, they would have investors lining up to fund their research/product, especially in this day and age of the internet and crowd sourcing. any "study" of a supplement just reporting anecdotes ain't worth a hoot, how does one even know the people in the study have pd or even took the supplement? it's hard enough in a regular study to have compliance. i did a recent pd study testing forced exercise on a tandem, they required a note from my neurologist, was run by a physical therapist, think they had less than $30,000 in funding because PT's salary was already paid for by the university. the fact that they added protein and mucana sets off alarms to me. |
