My husband's MDS provided us with the following recipe for constipation; his office received it from a Ms. Hinkley in Seattle, Wa. Her PD support group has found it to be very helpful. The neurologist's nurse relayed that several of their PD patients are using this with excellent results. We have not tried it yet, but plan to do so.
ANTI CONSTIPATION FRUIT PASTE 1 lb pitted prunes 1 lb raisins 1 lb figs 3 ½ to 4 oz package Senna tea (found in health food store) 1 Cup brown sugar 1 Cup lemon juice Prepare tea; use about 3 ½ cups of water to a package of tea. Steep 5 minutes Strain tea and remove leaves. Add 2 cups of the tea to a large pot. Add fruit. Boil tea and fruit for 5 minutes. Remove from heat. Add sugar and lemon juice. Cool. Turn mixture into paste using food processor or blender. Place in glass jar or Tupperware containers and put into freezer. It will not freeze, but will keep for a long time. Take 1 or 2 Tablespoons daily There is a company which makes the paste: Fruit-eze, PO Box 91275, Portland, Or97291 Phone 888-734-8527 0r 503-297-4126 32 oz container: $26.00; 2 for $42.00 4 for $78.00
