Dan,
How do you feel and respond on that dosage?
Do any family or friends mention anything good or bad that you don't notice?

Some people do metabolize medicines faster than others , so they usually need more or more frequent dosing.

But I would think it all depends on how you are doing with that amount..

In addition i take 1 carb/levo ER 200 at bedtime. I have had two neurologists at a leading hospital tell me not to worry about the high dosage. I have brought up repeatedly that I was worried about taking too much and increasing my dosage too fast.
I read the posts on neuro talk daily and do not read about anyone else taking as much as me. Today for the first time I asked on Yahoo "What amount of Levodopa is too much. WEB MD and others were vague and said there were many variables but one site said 1900 is the cut-off point.
I appeal to all of you. Am I being misled? Am I taking too much?
1. rytary makes things much more complicated to figure how much L-DOPA actually gets into your blood, this article assumes 75% bioavailability so when calculating how much l-dopa your body actually "sees" you have to reduce it by a minimum of 25% when calculating how much you are taking, same with 50/200CR.

"The usual maximum recommended daily dose of RYTARY is 612.5 mg/2450 mg"

http://www.parkinson.org/NationalPar...2ed3d4ab34.pdf

i'm not a medical professional so can't say if you are taking too much. if you are getting good relief from that dosage and tolerable side affects that's probably the main factor to consider.

keep in mind that when l-dopa was first being tested and there was no carbidopa given, patients were taking up to 12 GRAMS at a time of l-dopa. keep in mind this is a simple amino acid, you ingest far more amino acids in an egg. not exactly a good comparison i admit.

the other issue, at least to me, is the cost of ryary vs benefits compared to just adding COMTAN or a long lasting agonist like requip xl or neupro patch

Default Max dosage of Levodopa

Thank you both for responding.
I feel quite good on the dosages I now am on. My wife says I am doing better than I have before taking the Rytary. I believe my metabolism is quite high I can't gain weight and work out every day.
I read an article that said 1900 MG's is the Max Levodpa you can take and that scared me. I am really grateful for your responses.

My information is that the FDA approves 2,000 mg / daily of Sinemet. I take a little more than that. My neuro is a movement disorders specialist. And I know I get better results from the TEVA brand than the Mylan brand.
