Default Hey Teresa......

Glad that you are getting relief from the dreaded dysks. I tried Azilect and it did nothing for me; that's the reason that i don't post too much anymore, the damn dyskinesia makes it so that i have to correct practically every word that i write down, or my post would be almost unintelligible. And I writhe in my chair and kick the computer desk constantly while i'm at it. And if i don't have the dysks, i'm off too bad to move, so once again, writing here is just too much effort, even though i wan't to reply to posts. I hope everybody gives me an "Honorable Discharge" from this forum because of these problems. It makes even writing the simplest, shortest post a real chore, but i'm still here with you guys, in spirit anyways, as are a lot of people that are just not heard from much anymore. I've put my ten years in here as a poster, so I guess that i have "tenyer" now .
For the constipation, try Birte's suggestion of flaxseed oil. The gelcaps are kinda big so if you have swallowing problems, i would go for your olive oil suggestion. With either you get a lot of omega 3 fatty acids (although olive oil isn't particularly rich in omega 3's and i just recently read that flaxseed oil omega 3's aren't bioavailable to much of the population).
Remember to keep up your supplements, get plenty of vitamin D,C, B's, folic acid, etc. I take a lot of supplements, but just want to say that as a rule get plenty of a broad spectrum of vitamin supplements daily, along with amino acids and things like Sam-e, L-acetyl carnitine, melatonin and whatnot, you be the judge, don't spend your lifes savings though, and watch for deals; and antioxidants, lots of different kinds of antioxidants from different sources and your diet.
For all you unbelievers, i say "just try it" as far as supplements go. I "garuntee" that it'll make a difference in how you feel, generally. Although it won't cure PD, You'll feel better. And if you have problems with stomaching all these pills, try Prevacid (good for "curing" acid reflux, and general gastrointestinal problems, along with taking them with food.
BE good, and don't ever lose hope that soon they'll have SOMETHING, that will make life with this damned disease at least a bit better to cope with than what we currently have now.
PS- I wonder if Selegiline wuld have made you feel the same way as Azlect has? cs

Default Teresa & ol'cs

Teresa, I'm excited that you found something that works for you. I've read your posts forever. Ol'cs I also always read. I don't post often as I have problems getting my thoughts into words. I have dyskinesia problems unless I spend about half of my time off. I plan to try Azilect. who knows? I thank you both for all the posting you share. Hard to believe that I wrote so fluently once. I'm freezing up and must stop here.

I'm 32, diagnosed 2 years ago and have been taking 1mg/day of Azilect for 5 months and no other meds. It has provided zero help with my physical symptoms; they are still progressing. However, psychologically I am much happier and calmer with far fewer panic attacks after about a month of taking Azilect.

I've been on Azilect for a month and a half now. I'm amazed when someone says they felt a difference in 2-3 days. Most people I've spoken to say it takes anywhere from 4-6 weeks to see if it's going to work for you or not. (Not that I'm doubting your claims - well, honestly, maybe I am.)

So far, I haven't really noticed a difference. I still feel stiff, rigid, fatigued, etc. and feel like I need to up my Sinemet dosage. Maybe I'm one of those that it's just not going to work for. Ugh...

Default Great news Teretxu ...

congratulations.

Ron, I do not think that Rasagaline/Azilect is available as a patch however perhaps you have more upto date info.

Neil.

Please don`t allow your "lack" of fluency to put you off posting here
[Although this wasnt evident from your post here...so maybe you are more concsious of it than the rest of us]Your difficulties will be so understood. We have all been there at some time or another and the great thing about this place is...we are all understanding of each others dives when they happen.Of course if you become tired or find it hard to type, then we understand that too....but honestly...I often forget what I want to say next in a verbal conversation and wind up feeling a right prat. But I laugh about it and the folks who I am with are generally my terrific friends or family so they make allowances.

Truly...this is a wonderful place for support and we look forward to reading your future posts.

Hugs
Steff

ps..You can`t possibly make bigger gaffs than me !!! I`m the butterfly brain here so....if folk put up with me then you are well at home.
Welcome

Default More to shcg

I "ditto" Steffi's post to you, shcg. Although it probably was a great effort for you to write as you did, still, it's a good thing for everyone, here, to hear from you...to know that you care enough to write...to be in touch...so that even if your posts have to be short...and it's at all possible for you to write a few lines, try to think of it as a "labor of love"just letting people here know that you're still very much a part of this forum. As much as it might be a physical effort for you, it could be just what you need to do for yourself...mentally and emotionally...and, too, it should be somewhat uplifting for you to know that people, here, need and want to hear from you. We'll be waiting, shcg...

Therese

Default Patch

Neil,
Yes, you are right, Rasagiline is not available as a patch. I was thinking of Rotigotine, a new dopamine agonist that is available as a patch, sorry. You would think a chemist would not confuse big chemical names!!!
Just for interest, here are details of the Rotigotine patch.
