that I am receiving some benefit from the Azilect already. I have only been on this new medication (2 weeks of .5mg, and 1 week of 1.0mg) for a short time, but my gait has improved and I seem to be able to do things in less time. I walk faster, I am finishing my meals at the same time as everyone else at the table, and I have had no side effects that I can see. On the down side, it has done nothing for the tremor in my right hand, but I'll take what I can get. Hope others can get as much benefit as I am getting.

I stopped taking Azilect when I saw the research that said it didn't slow the progression of the disease. I had several days of withdrawal, which I expected, and then my affected hand went south: pain, cramps, inability to write. I was exhausted and unable to focus. My doctor said it would take 4-6 weeks for the drug to be completely out of my system. After a little more than a month I gave up and went back on Azilect. Even the first day I felt a little better. After five days I feel nearly back to normal. I'm actually typing this at nearly normal speed. I thought the drug wasn't doing anything worth noting, but, in my case at least, it was/is doing a lot. (I was able to continue cycling while off the drug, but it was more difficult.)

Further update. I emailed my neuro and he suggested that instead of using Azilect, I raise my dose of ReQuip XL from 4 mg. to 6 mg. and stop the Azilect. I did that yesterday and not only did I need no afternoon nap, my tremor nearly stopped completely. My right hand and arm stopped hurting as well. I'm curious to see how this plays out for the long haul.
