For those of you who have had DBS, and have the insomnia that often accompanies PD - did you find any relief after DBS?
Have you been sleeping better post DBS?

I got a DBS in July and am not bothered by sleep problems as I used to be. Of course, DBS is supposed to only affect motor symptoms so who knows if it's related.

For me anyway, this may be one of those attributes that you nearly forget about once it goes way and becomes hard to recall just how bad it was.

I sleep incredibly well - but it could have just as much with
the proximity of the ocean - approx., 100 yards. |

I'm in my 24th year of captivity. I had DBS a year ago October. Before I had a terrible time going to sleep. Most of it was due to pain. My hands would hurt so much that I had to put ice cubes in them. My legs would cramp and I put a heating pad on them. I had an aid stay with me all night every night to do this. Post DBS the pain in my hands went away totally and my leg pain did also. About five months ago the leg pain started to come back but I up my voltage one click and it went away somewhat. DBS wasn't supposed to do this but I'm glad it did.. I do have to take a xanax, half a benedryl and a melatonin to get to sleep now because I took it then and I can't stay asleep without them. I can get four to seven hours a night but I'm always tired.

Had DBS 12/15 & I believe all depends on programming. With some programming I had less sleep, with some programming I had more. Doing great now with sleep.

To clarify, in the above post 12/15 means December of 2015. So I've had DBS now for 2 years.

I'm still here but my problem is getting worse. If I raise the voltage on my DBS the cramping gets worse but the pins and needles pain gets better. If I lower the voltage cramps get better and pins and needles gets worse. Now the pain in my hand is coming back just a brief intervals so far. I am at a loss as to what to do. Of course last time I was at the doctor it wasn't bad at all. Anybody have these symptoms that found a solution???

I am just recovering from the DBS surgeries and starting the programming adjustments.
I have found the best results for sleeping deeply is edible cannabis - I have used it only for this purpose for years- pre-DBS and experimenting now with it post DBS. It enables me to fall back to sleep after getting up to use the bathroom during the night. Otherwise, once I wake up I will be awake all night.
