Default Weekly Check-In Nov 4-10, 2007 Welcome New Community Members

Hi Everyone, and a warm welcome to our new community members!

What a miserable day!..We got grazed by the remnants of Hurricane Noel today..Its been a dark, windy, raw, rainy day..I put an extra line on my boat yesterday..Any wind out of the north isnt a big deal at my dock, but I put the extra line on to keep my boat from banging into the two boats on either side of me..We lost power just before noon time today, and I was in the middle of making a crabmeat stuffing..and I have an electric stove....So much for that!..The power didnt come back on untill around 4:00 this aft

I had a nasty week..That cold that was coming on last week, finally got a hold of me, and I was sick almost all week..My throat was so raw that it woke me up about 6 times Tuesday night..Somehow I managed to get a good nights sleep..Probably due to the Sinamet CR..Ive been sleeping much better since I started it..The cold finally broke today, but Im not going to indulge in any physical activities untill atleast Monday, depending on how I feel..I dont want another dose of that cold..The past few days, not only my toes tend to curl, but my whole foot wants to curve inward now..Just what I dont need!..But par for the course I suppose

My brothers Dr did finally call on Moday I think it was..His PSA is normal, but his cholesteral is high, and the Doc said to try exercise and diet change..If that doesnt do it, then he's going to have to go on meds

I did go to my AA home group on Wednesday to celebrate my 18th year anniversary without a drink, even though I didnt feel that good..That is important to me..Thanks to AA and sobriety, Ive been able to get through life, and pd with a hopeful outlook, a peaceful mind, and a grateful heart

How was your week?

Default Noel

Noel had some really high wind gusts. My phone service was poor for a day.

But at long last, the heat broke; we got a cold front that moved the storm along, and left behind Florida's other season. Windows open, air conditioner off for the first time since March.

Blue sky, Florida at its best.

Help Hi Steve,

Hope you are passing on Vicks Nyquil. I also have been sick with pneumonia all week. All I seem to be able to do is sleep. No appetite, just sleep and chronic diarehea; could be from the antibiotic. Finished the antibiotics, which warned even a smidgeon of alcohal would cause serious nausea, left me dipping my wafer just a tiny winy bit at church this AM.

Will pray for your recovery. There is nothing worse than waiting the night out when you are sick. Daytime seems to feel less lonly. But at night you can't look out your window and people watch. All the houses are dark. And you feel so alone.

Love,
Vicky

I tried Alka-Seltzer cold, and Contac, and neither one helped

Default illness

steve and vicky, sorry to hear you are both "under the weather". Vicky, have you ever tried taking a "probiotic" or eating live culture yogurt (much yummier) when undergoing antibiotic therapy? both repopulates the gut with "helpful" microflora. can be quite effective with diarrhea due to antiobiotic use--ask your doc about its use when first prescribed an antibiotic. On the other hand, don't allow the diarrhea to go on too long before contacting your dr/or physician's nurse.ask your doc/nurse about drinking electrolyte water (ie gatorade) --may help with your electrolyte balance. Best of luck to both of you. madelyn

Default Get better...

What a nasty cold, Steve. And Vicky, pneumonia is not at all good, and neither are the meds. you have to take for it. I hope you both get better very soon. It seems as if the whole country has colds of one kind or another. Our little grandson gave both of us his croup - yes, grown ups can catch croup too, and it is very nasty. And then we went and gave it to Jaye - nice present to give a friend.
When I'm coming down with a cold I take a hot bath, wash my hair, change the bed linen and put all the clothes I was wearing when the cold started, to wash.
Everyone assures me that you can't wash away the cold germs or virus, the cold will run its course. They may be right, but it feels as if you can, and it certainly makes me feel much, much more comfortable.
We went to the Corning Glass Museum last week. It is marvelous. The museum shop is fun too. And we stopped for lunch in Bellefonte PA on the way up. Lovely little town with a wonderful 'Slow Food" restaurant. On the way back we saw Pennsylvania's 'Little Grand Canyon". It is very beautiful and dramatic, and the fall colors on the mountain sides are wonderful just now. We had lunch in the old hotel in Wellsborough close to the 'Canyon", and that was both fun and yummy. It's good to get out and see things. We even took a couple of long walks. The Canyon walk was so steep that my feet slid right out of my sandals. But I made it both down hill and back up hill again, which makes me very proud - and thankful.
