Thumbs up G'day from Australia

I was diagnosed with PD 2 years ago after being told I had Fibromyalgia and a frozen shoulder for about 6 years. To say I was stunned would be an understatement as I was 55 when diagnosed and now realise that I was in the early stages of PD in my forties. I found it impossible to continue as a teacher of 11 year olds so retired and decided to do volunteer work. I am now the librarian for Parkinson's Victoria, a Parkinson Ambassador which means I speak to organisations about Parkinson's and as I am an artist, I take art therapy classes for people with Parkinson's. When you help others you ultimately help yourself. Because of my volunteer work I have met many people who have become friends and it has also made me feel as if I am of use with something to contribute even though I have a neurological condition.
I love drawing with color pencils and pastels and have sold many pieces of art, especially portraits of animals. I love gardening and here in Australia it is close to the end of spring and soon it will be summer so my garden is full of roses all in full bloom. I potter in the garden for hours and it gives me enormous pleasure. Even with PD life is still good.

Yes, welcome AnneLouise--a lovely name indeed. Also a lovely attitude. I wish I could see your garden.

I too have found that I can trace PD symptoms back much farther in time than when it actually came to the point of diagnosis.

Default How Nice To Meet You

Anne Louise...and how nice that you shared something about you. I think, though, that it was your attitude that most "struck" me about your post, Anne Louise, and I have no doubt that it is this attitude that will be of most benefit as you travel the PD journey. Again, welcome...you have come to a good place here at the forum.

Default Welcome and nice to meet you

Anne Louise. I was dx'ed at age 40 and have been fighting this monster we call PD for 10 years now. Your attitude will be your biggest asset as time goes on. Keep up the fight.
Spring time in Australia. Got room for one more? It's almost winter here in the U.S. and we had our first snow flakes yesterday. I'm not looking forward to it at all this year.
