Default Chocoholics beware!

Chocoholics beware!

Medical Research News
Published: Thursday, 27-Dec-2007
http://www.news-medical.net/?id=33771

The prestigious British medical journal The Lancet has warned that dark chocolate may not be as good for us as we would like to think.

An editorial in the journal says according to health experts, claims that dark chocolate is good for you, may be misleading.

Scientists say plain dark chocolate is naturally rich in flavanols, which are plant chemicals believed to help protect the heart but according to the editorial many manufacturers remove flavanols from chocolate because of the bitter taste.

It seems dark chocolate might contain no flavanols at all while being rich in fat and sugar which are both potentially harmful to heart and the arteries.

The report follows recent research which has shown that flavanol-rich chocolate had a beneficial effect on circulation.

That research led by Dr. Andreas Flammer of the Cardiovascular Centre, Zurich, found that flavanol-rich chocolate caused blood vessels to open up and improved heart function in 11 heart-transplant patients while another study demonstrated that eating small amounts of dark chocolate can lower excessively high blood pressure.

But The Lancet says dark chocolate might not necessarily contain flavanols since cocoa solids can be darkened after flavanols are removed and even a dark-looking chocolate can contain no flavanols.

The Lancet says manufacturers rarely label their products with such information and consumers are therefore kept in the dark about the flavanol content of chocolate.

The Lancet editorial says even when flavanols are present dark chocolate is rich in fat, sugar and calories and those who eat a moderate amount of flavanol-rich dark chocolate will have to balance the calories by reducing their intake of other foods.

The Lancet says white or milk chocolate appears to offer no health benefits.

Heart the dear lancet needs to reveal who paid for the study!

conditional studies - perhaps?

if it was paid for by Nestle, than that would be bad dark chocolate w/ aspartame or some crapola in it...
now ~
if it were studied and not paid for by the owners of a chocolatier/or chocolate maker say worth billions...

I would say organic dark chocolate rates right up there with
organic coffee...

who will be the next revered and then shredded to helleth...

remember the bad egg controversy?
while in a whole product - the entire egg -it's grand -
it's the Cholesterol medicines that bites...

thatsza my 10 cents for absolutely nuttin' -lmao... (subliminal message) (because of Mister Bush and his warz, that's what the dollar is almost worth = 10 cents)

ps. maybe these are guilt trip studies - they are all funded by the corporate greed, and medical need, -so in time -the doctors -well some doctors have a conscious/conscience therefore comes the guilt thus the bipolar review...

Default dear curious?

hey Curious -
in Willy Wonka land the river is made of good or bad chocolate syrup?
just wondered? cuz that is where you live...
PS. my neurologist who dxd'd me in Virginia for the plague -
-looked just like Willy Wonka, he held my hand while I sobbed...
so I have a soft spot for Gene Wilder look a likes...

oh if I could just go back 15 years... I would have missed all this?
I lost my family over this illness... too embarassing for my ex- and et al
the crying... so I am glad of those I have that love me, they are written on my heart - as they are more valuable to me than anything this world has to offer...

Default Now I know....

why i DON'T subscibe to the Lancet! How dare they, say dark chocolate or any chocolate is not good for you?
So I should give up chocolate, start drinking coffee and smoke? Oh I forgot--those other two things supposed to help you not have PD..according to research. Too late for me (but for the record never did either)
Sorry I just had to vent. I just had 3 pieces of dark chocolate, so I feel much better. YUMmmmmy. Go ahead, indulge...i won't tell a soul. I use it as a non-prescription anti depressant.

Chocolate lovers are the best!
