Purses for Parkinson's

Never let it be said that things are going to heck in a handbag over at Dresher Estates. In fact, it's quite the opposite.

That's because on Wednesday, Feb. 20, Dresher Estates will have its second annual "Purse Party" from 3 to 6 p.m. The event, which will feature 35 to 40 handbags that those attending can buy chances to win, raises money that this year will be donated to The Parkinson Council.
"It was incredibly well attended last year," said Marge Jacoby, director of community relations at Dresher Estates, 1405 North Limekiln Pike in Dresher. "You get to eat, drink, donate money for a good cause and hopefully win a nice purse to take home."
Lest the gentlemen think there will be nothing for them at a purse party, Jacoby said that items like a toiletries kit, wallets, a briefcase and other items will be available for the men as well.
"We've done this type of event throughout our company (Brandywine Assisted Living) and the professionals love it," said Jacoby. "It gets people into our building to see how lovely it is and we get to give something back to the community."
Last year, Dresher Estates donated $500 in proceeds from the inaugural purse party to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the Cure.
Jacoby said that one of the things that impressed her last year with Komen Foundation officials also impressed her again this year with Parkinson Council officials.
"The big places do really care about every cent they get," said Jacoby. "Nobody is too little to give. These people really appreciate what the community does.
"When we presented the check last year to the Komen Foundation officials, they were so kind," she said. "It was like they were getting a million dollars from us."
Along with the designer purses, wine, hors d'oeuvres and other door prizes will be available.
