Default Weekly Check-In March 9-15, 2008 Welcome New Community Members

Hi Everyone..And a warm welcome to our new community members!..Please make yourselves at home..We're all in the same boat

What a day!..Mild, pouring flooding rain, and gale force winds..Other than today though, the weather hasnt been bad..It looks like its finally coming around

Ive been busy most of the week taking junk out of the garage and cellar to the dump, and working out in the yard..It felt good to get out of the house, get moving, and get some stuff done..Ive been feeling stiff as starched blue jeans lately from hanging around the house too much

I bought a new computer a couple of days ago, a HP Windows Vista on sale at Best Buy..My old Windows 98 was on its last leg and in dire need of CPR....What a difference!..But getting adjusted to it is very time consuming..I dont like change, and it seems the past few years thats all Ive been doing is going through change..Pd sure does have its way of altering the landscape

How was your week?

I rememberr Windows 98. What a piece of crap OS!
Vista will be a great improvment!
Vista, as XP is rather intuitive, and its tutorials are great, so you should have no problems upgrading.
I am sticking with XP till they get Vista running smoothly. Even in its "raw" state, it will be light years ahead of 98.

Yeah Charlie..Ive found that although it is a milenium ahead of Windows 98 in features, it is very user friendly..As long as you've got some basic savvy, Vista will walk you through the process of anything thats different from 98..I was even able to install my Adobe 6.0 photoshop program, that was designed for Windows 98 in this thing..I also had to install my new combination printer/scanner, and Vista walks you right through the process without complication..Its like its got some of the simplicity of the "Video Proffessor" built into it, and the moniter is so much bigger..Im really liking it!

I'm a Vista user with 3 machines running it now. Since I work in the high-tech industry, I need to learn to use new operating systems and such to keep up with technology. I've used computer systems since 1983, and have learned everything from CP/M to Solaris with JCL and VAX/VMS thrown in the pile as well. There's a lot more going on in Vista than in any operating system before, and a lot more than what meets the eye with its pretty interface.

Being a first adopter of the new operating systems has put me through a couple of the growing pains like poor drivers and other hiccups. But I can say once these bugs are worked out, Vista will be quite the OS even if the press doesn't think so. If I recall, there were some bad things said about XP similar to what has been said about Vista, but they all seem to be forgotten now. It's funny how time changes one's outlook on even the worst thing to come along since Windows 3.1.

I've finally gotten used to my new medication schedule and my nausea is subsiding quite a bit. The gum chewing and sitting very still helps a lot. The only problem left is that darn fatigue. I can't get away from myself and with me newly refound mobility. I'd love to start playing the piano full force again, but I can't get more than an hour in before I'm completely fried. I'll be just warmed up and start back on a project I intiated a few years ago when my steam runs out. I'm actually sleeping well, which is a good thing, but I'm pretty dead on my feet by Wednesday. By the time the weekend rolls around, I end up sleeping all day Saturday and a good part of Sunday as I try to recharge the batteries to no avail.

My boring web406 class is killing me physically and I know that and is another burden on me, but I don't want to waste the money - $1500 or close to it is a lot of money to waste so I'll suck it up and ride out the next 2 weeks and get the class behind me.

I'm not sure if this bothered anyone else, but how'd you deal with the time change? This has throwm my schedule off big time and it's taking me a lot of work to get on it again. Today I'm very tremulous and stiff whereas before the time change, I was feeling pretty well. Hopefully after the schedule adjustment things will work out.

John..You mentioned the driver in the Vista system..Every so often my screen goes black momentarily, and a pop up says driver failure..Whats up with that?

Steve,

This has to do with the software that makes the video card talk to the rest of the system so in effect, there is a problem with the vdeo driver. You may want to check HP's web site for updated drivers for your system. Their driver download is excellent. You choose your PC model, and then a webpage comes up with all the updated drivers you need.

Once you download the driver, (It's an .exe file), You run the program just like any other and follow the prompts on the screen. Reboot as necessary aftwerwards.

PM me if you need detailed instructions. I can also call you if you need help. I have unlimited long distance service so calling RI from MA is no isse.

Smile Been a long time

Just thought I'd check in also. My pd doesn't seem to be progressing rapidly, some times I wonder if I even have it. But then, I am taking stalevo 3 times a day, carbo-leva-dopa 3 times a day and mirpex 3 times a day. My main issue continues to be rock hard muscles in neck and shoulders/upper back. My neuro seems to think it is not pd related, more ergonomic from working in front of computer all day.
Other than that, I am doing good. My kids (all 4 0f 'em) are either married, out of house, or in school living at college. So I am enjoying freedom I haven't had for quite along time. I have found some wonderful hobbies that I can't get enough of. I do lampworkng, japanese braiding, and jewelry making. I am absolutelly addicted to making glass beads and small sculptures (lampworking). I have been doing it for 1.5 yrs now and I think the hand coordination needed to do this has helped my pd.
I am still working, but have to go out to my car at lunch to take a nap because my energy level can't last all day. I love my job, but am actually looking forward to early retirement in about 1.5 yrs. I now have plenty of stuff other than work to do.
Lately I have had problems sleeping, wake up every night at 1:30. Are sleep problems an issue of pd? I hope not, there is nothing worse. I try not to worry about it, but this is hard to do when you only get 3 hrs sleep and have to work 8 hrs next day.
Hope all is well with everyone. I check in often, just don't reply, but am with you at all times. Sometimes, just don't have much to say it seems. Take care.
