Does anyone have hand controls for their car? If yes, could you tell me how long you have had them and if you got a new car or had them installed on your old car and about how much it cost?

no hand controls here. Just do not "over-drive" your PD. You will always find me in the slow lane doing 55-60. I coast to a stop ( I drive a gas-guzzler Suburban)I never tailgate.

I find that my sudden reflexes are unaffected by my PD. SO I am still safe to drive ,given a choice though, I ride "shotgun" and let one of the kids drive 3 of the 5 have their licenses.

I still drive without hand controls as well - every day in fact to and from work. The biggest problem I have is stress and tension. After awhile I loose me patience with the other drivers especially in heavy traffic where there is constant braking and sudden stops. The constant stress makes me so stiff be the time I reach my destination that I'm not good for anything. I don't have any problems yet with the reflexes though, and like Charlie, I don't tailgate and keep my speed reasonable at 60-65 mph.

I think part of my uncomfortable ride might be the low seating in my car. I drive a 2001 Toyota Celica which is kind of difficult to get in an out of, but the gas mileage is good at 40mpg, and it's paid off. It was a great car when I didn't have the PD

The problem I have is also in heavy traffic when you have to slow down and speed up on the interstate and I can't use my cruise control. My PD is on my left side, but I have a problem with pain in my right leg, usually when I walk without my cane because I drag my left leg, but also when I am driving. So I think it is only indirectly related to my PD. Sunday I had a busy day in the city and didn't use my cane all the time, and then driving home my leg hurt so much when I had to press the brake pedal, that I am starting to worry that in the future I might have trouble putting on the brakes.

That's my problem with the traffic. The constant stop and go movement from gas to brake and back. After awhile I'm pretty annoyed then get stressed and stiff. I'm getting to the point where I actually hate driving now and dread the every day commute.

I think it is more related to the PD because i was never like this before.
