Is ANYTHING simple about this dratted disorder?
It is true that we can influence our reaction to life slings, arrows, and occasional unidentified flying object, but there is something about us that is different. Otherwise, with today's stress levels, parkies would be littering the ground. And, as hard as we try to relax, some of us would be cured. It isn't that we overreact to life and can just learn to relax (though that does help). It is that our systems are sensitized to the chemicals that make up that reaction. And to make it more complicated, we have a higher overall level of the chemicals as well. It all goes back to our first days and nervous mamas and even grandmas. It is inherited even though not truly hereditary. They use the term "epigenetic." Are we doomed? Not by a long shot. But we do need to get the medical community to take this seriously and stop chasing ldopa around in the same circle that they have followed for the last 40 years. Meanwhile, things like ashwagandha and DHEA need to be looked at. The first is adaptogenic and the latter supposedly counters cortisol (the leading culprit). But I suspect that we need our turmeric and green tea to take over the positive things the cortisol has been doing in controlling the immune over reaction in the brain. Sigh....
