I'm on Azilect & starting Stalevo. I'm looking for any do's and don't you may offer. Positive experiences would be great as well.
Searching for info only turns up bad experiences and crappy side effects. My neuro's assistant mentioned hallucinations like it was an acceptable side effect and they would be mild. I had enough hallucinations in college ![]() Robert

Almost 5 years ago a new nuerologist had me try Stalevo.. I had several hallucinations. Theu weren't scary ones though, just weird and a few of them were just audio, When thr neuro never returned my phone calls, I found another neuro and was taken off Stalevo.
Last January I was given a prescription far Axilect. It cost $1,000. Took one pill and had extreme dyskenisa. So, I now have $1,000 worth of a med I can't take in my cabinet. I wish you better luck than I had with either of these two. I do fine on Sinemet, Amantadine, and was taking Mirapx (just quit that recently0. Just started taking Artane again, but it makes me very sleepy. I took it many years ago and had sight ptoblems so this time I'm slowly increasing the dose. Best of luck at better living through chenistry |

I have had no problems on Stalevo either. I think I've been taking it about 2 years also. I take it with Requip.

I'm on both and am doing just fine. I started on stalevo a couple of years ago after mirapex made me o/c. And I started on Azilect as soon as it was FDA approved. I found that azilect helped "smooth out the off periods" So the combination is working for me. good luck

I've been on Stalevo 50 for at least a few years. I suspect that my "off's" became a bit worse after I started it, but on the whole, it really works well. Way back, a trial of higher dose of Stalevo 100 caused horrendous dyskinesias, so be cautious. Do you all know that Namenda, 5 mg. (I take with each Stalevo dose), helps many people with reducing dyskinesias? It's an anti-Alzheimers med that my neurologist heard can be helpful with dyskinesias, and for me, it definitely helps alot. And I'm absolutely certain the Namenda sharpens my executive functions that have deteriorated with PD-can sometimes make me a bit speedy, but I don't mind. You shouldn't go above 40 mg. per day. Good luck, Leonore

I have just had my medication switched from sinemet to stalevo and azilect and have started feeling really lousy. Extreme fatigue, muscles aching and I'm very depressed. Has this happened to anyone else? Does it go away?

I think your Dr should have either took you off of Sinemet, and replaced it with Stalevo, or kept you on Sinemet and added Azilect I have been going through some med changes because Amantadine was causing edema on both of my corneas, and I was progressively going blind by the day..This is a rare side effect..I tried to get off of it too fast, and I went through hell..I was able to go down from 300 mgs to 200 mgs per day, and in 6 weeks 90% of my vision has been restored, however I have had some balance problems as a result..My neuro gave me some samples of Azilect..I took it for 2 weeks, and I didnt like the way it was making me feel..It gave me dyskinesia, so I stopped taking it I have been on Stalevo, 200 mg 3 times per day, for 3 years, and it has been reasonably predictable, whereas Sinemet had become a nightmare..I was on, then I was off, on, off, on off, on off..When I took my first dose of Stalevo, I felt like I was 20 years old again Stalevo did cause fatigue for a while, but for me, it got better in time..One of the good things about Stalevo, is that all though the fatigue passed, I can take a nap, anytime during the day, and fall asleep within a few minutes My point is, that it is not a good idea to make more than one change at a time..You can get lost in the shuffle, and if it brings on depression, your symptoms will definately get worse
