Default Coffee is not good for me

I love hot coffee espiecially in MN winters. I now substitute working out at a fitness center. It tires me out enough to sleep at night. To stay asleep, I use Trazadone. If you haven't had a sleep study done, you might want to consider one. I discovered my oxygen/blood level dropped to 74% which would not allow me to get any REM sleep. They are trying me on a CPAP machine even though I do not have sleep apnea. They did a second study which showed improvement.

I used to love my coffee but now it makes me a shaky mess. I had really good luck with most of those little bottles of " 5 hour energy." they seem somehow to be buffered. I still like them but in some situations I find that they last too long. I have the typical sleep problems and often cannot get more than 3-4 hours at a time. So I found a product called "Livewire Energy Chews." if you google them on line you can buy bags of them in various flavors pretty cheap. They work really well for me and the effect fades after about two hours so I can control how long I am alert.

Robert,

I'm not sure if you are mainly looking for the caffeine boost or just missing the whole coffee "experience"? If it is a boost to get you going, I would try green tea. It does a lot for us or so it would seem if we look at mice with PD. Regardless, it is still really good for us. Now if they could just mix all the neuro goodies into coffee, I'd be sooo happy.

If you want a natural coffee alternative, chicory will almost fool you if you make it strong and hot enough.

I have read that coffee or any caffeine product does help some PWP- not me

As for the insomnia, if you are on agonist, it seems there is no avoiding it. I have had to resort to taking a sleeping pill. Grrr. Seems there is no end to the pill-popping.
