A Possible Cure for Diabetes Ignored by Big Pharma http://articles.mercola.com/sites/ar...ig-Pharma.aspx Twelve years ago, Professor Irving Weissman discovered a treatment that could have saved the lives of thousands of women with advanced breast cancer. Pharmaceutical companies weren’t interested in developing the therapy at the time. Though interest in his methods are finally being ignited, Weissman regrets the wasted time. In a set of lectures, Weissman repeatedly expressed frustration that while many of his discoveries in the field of stem cell research seemed to hold remarkable potential for life-saving treatments, commercial or regulatory hurdles have prevented his scientific findings from benefiting patients

Hi,
I have a lot of respect for Dr.Weissman and his work in stem cell area is great, his lab was the first one to characterize stem cells, make a mouse model for AIDS etc., the list goes on. He is a well known and highly regarded scientist from Stanford. If I remember correctly, he was also a co-founder of atleast a part of a biotech company "SystemiX" which was founded by people from his group. I agree Big Pharma is no angel but I find it hard to believe that big Pharma could stop him from taking his discoveries into therapeutics at his own company. Anyway thats my two cents worth on this topic! girija |

amgen took the gdnf from our very own PD patients, after they saw them getting out of wheel chairs, have you actually seen anyone cure with their own stem cells - w/ PD I have - Dr. Levesque used a similiar technique, that worked for a PD patient for 5 years, (his own stem cells" that was almost 10 years ago - bigpharma isnt interested in cures? they believe in making money... they have to consider - how to continue making money, we pushed and shoved Amgen - but the wallet with the most green wins!
