Thanks Icehouse.
Last week, 25/10/16, I started to drastically reduce my alcohol intake, and it has now been 6 days since I touched a drop. Mentally, I feel immeasurably better, and physically, the tingly, pins and needles type sensations are lessening every day. I am eating like I never have before, good foods mind, lots of fruit, veg, pasta etc; I know this is going to be a long road, but I am determined to see it through. Every day, I tell myself, " Today, I am not going to drink, just get through today". So far, it is working. I shall keep you all posted with regard to my progress. Thanks all.

Well done Coop, stay positive and present, think not the past, nor the future, just focus on the here and now. DB when he was where you are began looking into mindfulness, it's helped him immensely.

I have recommitted to taking vitamins. Over the years, the barrage of "vitamins don't do anything useful" articles had gnawed away at my confidence, and found fertile soil in my respect for the scientific method. "It's probably all in the head", that kind of thinking.

The new inspiration came from an unexpected source: my GP. She asked me if I was still taking B12 and D3. I hesitated a bit and she went: "you should, I do think it helps in your case." Combined with the feeling that lately the pains were getting a bit worse again (also frequent cramps in my toes at night*), it changed my mind.

So there we are, a new batch of Methyl B12 (Jarrow this time), 5000iu D3, magnesium, and EPA/DHA was ordered and received. Will let you know how that goes.**

* very disturbing to feel and watch; the cramps pulled my big toe towards the outside of the rest - quite a bit further than I thought possible - making it seem like it was broken. Painful (8/10 type of pain) and scary. Since taking magnesium for a few days this has subsided.

** in case you wonder: whereas, when I got sober, the pain was located starting from just above my ankles all the way down, it is now totally situated in the last 5 cm of my feet. No more swollen ankles, no more burning heels (or burning in general). We do know that if nerves heal, it goes very slowly, so maybe this is the progress one can expect after 4.5 years of sobriety?

Default Three week report

Hi everyone.
Well today, 17th November, is my 21st day of being sober. I hate to tempt fate, but it is not half as difficult as I was expecting. I have even resumed full time work. There have been a couple of occasions, whilst walking home from work, after a grueler of a shift, and past one of my old drinking haunts, when I have thought: "A well earned pint would go down a treat". But I have not succumbed to it. I am surprising even myself!
I hope everyone is as OK as they can be, and please believe me when I say that if I can make progress, then we all can.

God Bless.

One. Day. At. A. Time.

I am sure I mentioned it here somewhere, but that counter I post every month is very much an incentive for me. It is not to boast, but to show PROOF that I am doing something about my disease one day at a time. AND, there have been MANY people who have helped me along the way who I would hate to disappoint by setting that counter to zero. That is part of my drive to keep counting upwards.

Accountability.

If you add some L Methylfolate to your mix, Wide-O , you will have a "metanx type" formulation...

Right. B9. Used to take that in the beginning, recommended by the neurologist. Good point, will add it again. (methylated form). Thanks. * edit: ordered

Default hello

Just saying hello. New here. In long term recovery, but still have some major nerve damage. Been taking B12 for a long time, see slight improvement, but I still have a lot of issues.
