I once rolled over both of my big toes trying to move an exercise bike.

Both toenails turned black. I had no pain. At that point, I had no clue that I had neuropathy. I thought I had 'compartment syndrome' because the front of my tibial area felt like something was tightening on them. Like tight socks up to the knee.

I also have a bone pain sensation.

I do not have burning. I used to have some on the soles of my feet.

I ran on a fractured tibia for months, not knowing it was a bad stress fracture until it bled thru to the skin.

The docs didn't think of neuropathy either and casted me and I went nuts from the pain of the cast and had to have it cut off.

Still no one thought neuropathy.

Not until it was autonomic did any one thing neuropathy, and it was a cardiologist who referred me to a neuro.

I dont think the cause is what dictates the symptoms. I don't feel an autoimmune disease dictates how things 'feel'.

I think every one has a unique nervous system and relationship with pain.

when i was being tested for charcot foot having to wear a cast if i had it was one of the things that scared me and i dont really scare too easily. I just could not imagine having to wear a cast on my foot. I would go out of my mind. The last time i broke my ankle they told me i was lucky by a fraction of an inch at not having to have a hard cast. I was thinking to myself, no way.

I had no idea I would react like that to a cast. I also had no idea I had neuropathy.

I could never wear a cast now, and they had to remove the cast back then, after 2 days. That was in 7 years ago, so I must have had pretty bad neuropathy back then.

My deep bone pain feels 'bruised' as if it had something dropped on,
or been stepped on, but not broken. Almost, but not quite.
Today I feel it just below the knees on the front of my legs
(upper-shins?) and I'm walking very gingerly.
This winter, snowy, weather also makes my soles burn,
and my toe bones ache, too.
