Thank you. I will mention this to the neurologist. I've been ready some threads on NT and they have been helpful. I am still a mess but have some things to bring back to the doc.

It is one cause:

Some ataxias are inherited, and some acquired. Gluten ataxia is considered acquired, but the gluten intolerance itself may be inherited. It is worth looking into, IMO.

Default Hey Dewey

I'm so sorry things seem to be taking a dive. PLEASE don't let 'hopelessness' take hold k!
I looked back at your very first post on this thread, when things were going real well for you. Are you still doing the weekly acupuncture?

Well, for what it's worth...here's a
You're in my prayers.

Please believe that things will get better.

Default NM Dewey--

--I thought the EXACT same thing as Mrs. D did when I read the post about cerebellar ataxia; gluten sensitivity/celiac is well-known to cause neuronal antibody cross reaction with Purkinje cells in that area, and is one of the first things that should be checked. But many doctors don't know this and overlook it.

JCC has a batch of info on this at The Gluten File:
http://jccglutenfree.googlepages.com/glutenataxia

At the very least you should be titred up for anti-gliadin IgA and IgG antibodies, the anti-transglutaminase IGA antibody, and total IgA (which, if low, can skew the results of the other tests), if you haven't been before, just to see if there is any indication of a gluten problem.

I am doing better today. Yes, I am still doing acupuncture. Starting yoga and aquatic aerobics next week. I will take the information regard Celiac to the doc and ensure we get tested. I'll be damned if I'm gonna let this get me down and rule me. Too many things to live for...life is way too short! Thank you.

Default Yes!

Good for you mate` !
It inspires ME to see you talk like that!

And despite the fact that alot of the gluten/celiac stuff kinda goes over my head, I did make a few changes to my diet (ex: replaced regular wheat bread with gluten-free bread) and really took a serious poke at the supplement program (esp B12-methyl and magnesium) and after awhile did notice it getting easier to control the pain and flares.
And i absolutely can't say enuf about the water excercises!
I hope you have a real nice therapy pool available to you like I go to. It's absolutely awesome! Sometimes it's kinda hard to get motivated to go 'swimming' while we're having this exceptional winter, but I'm always glad I did when I get home!

As you know, nothing seems to happen over nite, but after awhile (in looking back thru my notes) I do see a trend for the better when i make even the most subtle of changes.

I know you know all this, but it sure doesn't hurt to know that there are people supporting you every step of the way.
I'm right there with ya man!
