How's everything going? Anything new to report? I hope you've talked to the doc by now and started the medicine. I really hope you're getting some relief.

You know that goat in the AFLAC commericial? Naah, naah, naah. I left another message just now since my last message was last week.

I'd consider firing him at this point, but this is the fifth neuro I've been to, and I just don't think I have it in me to wait for months to see someone else and start all over again and then have them tell me there's nothing more they can do to help me. Ya know?

Hi there!

I have problems with burning or freezing feet from neuropathy related to my back issues. I've tried numerous meds, including cymbalta and lyrica, which my body built up a tolerance. If you're unhappy with the cymbalta, get advice from your practitioner on how to wean off of it. I did it cold turkey and the effects are aweful. It felt like my head and eyes were swimming. I have a simple suggestion to try and you may even find it amusing, but it helps. Icy Hot....the menthol cools off my feet immediately. The burning usually bothers me most at night, but it sure does help!

Thanks Rhonda. None of those menthol/eucalyptus things help me, and I think that myeamans said the same, but I've seen a lot of people here swear by them, so you're right!

So the nurse finally calls me today, and says that doc1 agrees with doc2 that I should try Topamax (doc2 had mentioned that as well when I saw him).

I said " I'm already on Amitriptyline, Gabapentin, and Carbamazepine...did he say that I have to start stepping down to eliminate one or more of those first? And what about the calcium channel blocker?"

Nurse: "Oh he didn't say anything about either of those...I'll have to ask and call you back."

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

I guess I'm gonna go play with the stinkbugs now...they are so incredibly slow and stupid that I wonder how they've prospered as a species.

I think you will need evaluation by a vascular specialist to show the decreased circulation in your legs. The neurologist is for nerves. Very specialized.

I would bypass that neuro and get another evaluation by a doctor
who can interpret the blood flow etc. If you do have PAD, you will need therapy from that specialist anyway.

I know it is a hassle, but that is how medicine is these days.

Yeah, this is a hassle. Doc1 is a neurologist who sent me to doc2 who is a physical medicine & rehabilitation specialist. Doc1 insisted that doc2 could, for sure, help me with my PN pain (even I know that's BS). So you can see where this is going, and OK, I'm going through the PT just to humor these geniuses so they can't say that I'm being uncooperative.

I'm not sure what to do at this point...I got that ABI test, and it seemed normal, so is there another test I need, or are you saying I need a re-interpretation of that test?

Unhappy My feet are killing me
I have been casually diagnosed as having peripheral neuropathy in my feet due to a cervical injury. I have been on Neurontin and now am on Lyrica. Nothing works. I slept 3 hours last night and have small children. When I walk I feel like I walking on glass. Any advice??

have you checked the floor?

just kidding, Ask your doc to put you on a cocktail. A mixture of pain relievers all working differently can help. eg lyrica/tramadol or lyrica/elavil
