Default You folks in medical MJ states -

What effect does MJ have on your pain??? I have not had a lot of success with it, but perhaps I am not using enough.

I also wonder, it it more effective if ingested instead of smoked??

As I was fighting off the nausea that comes with my a.m. dose of gabapentin and suffering through another hot flash brought on by methadone, it occurred to me that the "fix" is as bad as the illness.

From my college days, I don't recall having many SE's from MJ.

I'm getting ready to return to my home in Michigan for the summer and just wondering if maybe it's time to apply for a card there.

Any opinions??

I'm not in a MJ state, but did try it, after many years of abstinence, when I was looking for some other med to replace my neurontin - about 4 years ago.

One of my kids, or grandkids - can't remember which - presented me with a small amount to try (experiment) for my PN pain.
It did not help at all.

Possibly, because of a heightened state of awareness, it exacerbated the problem.
I just got high, a bit dizzy, got the munchies, was incredibly thirsty, and took a nap.
When I woke, I had a bit of a 'hangover'.
I tried it on 2 other occasions within about 2 weeks and had similar results.

Didn't work at all for my pain, and it was good weed.
Very little was needed. I didn't even finish one thin 'j' each time I tried it.

I gave the remaining back. seemed a shame to waste it
(pardon the pun ), especially as that stuff ain't cheap anymore!.

Seems that what we used to get (in the 60's) for $5 or $10,
is now 5 to10 times that cost.

OMG, I am laughing so hard I am crying!

Wow....I am painless at this moment.

The emoticons were particularly effective!

(It's still cheaper than Cymbalta.......)

Why are you laughing at senseless things?
Did a bong bowl, did we ?
Take a nap, you'll feel less hysterical when you wake !

As far as cheaper than cymbalta ,
is MMJ covered by Medicare Part D,, supplemental, Rx plan?

Red face

I think people vary in their responses to MJ.

I know some people who get mighty paranoid on it.

I tried it over 30+ yrs ago, on the urging of hubby when he returned from Vietnam. All the soldiers there seemed to do it.

I didn't like it. I had terrible hangovers the next day, burning lungs, etc. It wasn't worth the giggles for a short time IMO.
I tried cooking with it... made some chocolate chip cookies, and those were better.(I sauteed the MJ into the butter before mixing the other ingredients) But still not something I enjoyed or looked forward to. I don't do well with opiates either. So I think, that people vary in their response to MJ based on there neurotransmitter makeup in the brain.

I understand that there have been improvements to it since we tried it. Stronger, more potent, etc. That probably would totally annihilate me! I would have to be totally incapacitated by pain to even consider it again! But that is just my experience.

[QUOTE=Swmnupstrm;655014]What effect does MJ have on your pain??? I have not had a lot of success with it, but perhaps I am not using enough.

*** More likely, not the correct strain. Two basic classes of MM -- indica and sativa. Indica is the strain most people use for pain. Within that strain there are different clones and crosses. It took me about a year to finally find a couple what generally work well for me. I went to a lot of social events where one could pick up samples. Was a "Judge" once for a "Whose MM is best" event -- primarily so I could sample many different varieties.

I also wonder, it it more effective if ingested instead of smoked??

*** The best way for me to ingest it is by vaporizing it. Special machine that heats the MM enough that the THC is turned into vapor which is inhaled. I also like tinctures (non-alcohol glycerin-based). But smoking is the quickest and easiest way to medicate.

Any opinions??

*** Given the fact that the AMA recently changed their position on it (something along the lines of "there may be some therapeutic uses and it should be studied more") and the fact that Canadian studies showed something like a 34% positive response by neuropathy patients, it really couldn't hurt. But do your own due diligence... every state is different.

So look what is in the news....BTW, I wonder how many fibro cases are really SNF, since how many of the fibro people get access to skin biopsy, but anyway.....

Since I don't remember having any bad side effects from it (except eating more pizza than I should), I think I am going to look into this more seriously when I get back to Michigan. Didn't realize there are different strains. Hey, maybe if nothing else, it will stop the nausea I get with gabapentin.
