Hi everyone,
I am still on the rollercoaster, trying to find a reason i have peripheral neuropathy. I'm now on Tegretol and no longer have the intense burning pain (thank God!). I still have the deep aching pain in my hands and feet, and feeling so tired all the time. I had a nerve conduction test done today and the neuro who did it said at first glance it looks normal. So I wanted to ask you all if anyone knows what things a nerve conduction test rules out, and what things are still a possibility? I know that it doesn't show small fibre problems, but that is all i know. Thanks, Semaphore |

It shows large fiber involvement.
Small fiber (a large percentage of us) should be Dx'd with a skin punch biopsy. (Not a Sural nerve biopsy.)

Small responses or near normal can be indicative of CMT Type 2. Has that been checked out? Is there a family history?
There are many kinds of PN as I'm sure you know. Hope you find the answer.

depending on how long you have had PN, large fiber involvement might not show up on an EMG/NCS. There needs to be a certain degree of damage done to the large nerve fibers before the emg/ncs is able to detect it.
