Default Lyrica doses/effects

I'm interested in hearing from others who have used or are using Lyrica.

I am currently at 450 mg a day; one pill in am and two at night. My neurologist says it is the highest dose she's prescribed and the highest allowed is 600 mg daily -- one more pill.

Effects? I think my teeth are becoming more sensitive to cold and hot things.

Last week I was feeling so good -- had met my new doc, was almost off of morphine and seemed to be getting some relief from the magnets.

"Hmmm. Maybe I don't need 450 mg; maybe I only need 300. Let's see what happens."

Flash forward to Monday. I thought my pain was up high because I had walked so much Saturday night. [The Portland version of World Naked Bike Ride happened in that area -- thousands of mostly young naked bike riders -- so we had to walk out of the area where they were riding until we could find a place to get a cab.] For most of Monday it was 5 - 7+; Monday evening as I took the one Lyrica I remembered my "experiment". Took the second Lyrica and today I'm back to "normal" for me.

Questions.

What are people's doses and side effects?

Cowboy

PS: I don't like or respect my neurologist, but I don't think I'll mess with her prescriptions for this again.

Hi rscowboy!

I am glad you feel Lyrica is working for you.

I cannot suggest doses, etc.
I cannot tolerate this class of drugs at all.
(I am much better off with morphine. I have a much better quality of life.)

I hope you continue to find relief!

The side effects of Lyrica are understated by the doctors, in my opinion and include losing all your teeth, among others: I dropped out of taking 75 + 150 mg after 2 weeks, even though it took well care of most of my pain...

It has low marks and bad reports among pain management medicines, compared to say Fentanyl patches...

We have had so many posts on Lyrica!

Some are very positive and some have had many side effects.

If you use the "search" function at the top right of the forum and put in "Lyrica" into the search you will see many posts that discuss it. Some are from older members, who don't come here often and you might find helpful advice from them as well, by searching the drug.

I take the max of Lyrica-600mg/day, and have been taking it for over 3 years.
Although I have had tooth/periodontal problems lately, I had periodontal problems 15 years ago, 10 years ago and 6 years ago.
The relationship between tooth loss and Lyrica has not been proven,
to my satisfaction.
Almost all the evidence is anecdotal. I cannot find any factual material that meets my criteria to definitively say that there is a link. My periodontist cannot either, and he takes Lyrica for Fibro.
I feel that there are individuals who have personal vendettas and are willing to make the drug the scapegoat.
As long as it controls my PN problems, I'm not willing to write Lyrica off
with this as a side effect, or cause of my dental problems.

[QUOTE=nide44;667816]I take the max of Lyrica-600mg/day, and have been taking it for over 3 years.

*** Last week when I was feeling pretty good (very low pain on average and very high energy) I thought to myself, "Maybe I don't need 450 mg daily" so started an "experiment" by not taking one pill. Only 2 days later pain was as high as it has ever been. On 3 pills my morning pain ranges between 3 and 4 with evening pain 5 - 6.5. May I ask what your pain levels are? I am nervous to ask to go to the max dose yet, but if it would knock a couple of points off....

When I started Lyrica, my doc had me @ 450mg/day. It worked, but not well enough. My pain levels were at 7.5-9.0 before meds. At 450, about 5-6.
Now at 600mg/day- pain levels are down to a 1.5-3, sometimes a 4, but mostly 1-2 or 2.5
