Is there some division of the Department of Health (CDC??) that maintains these numbers?
Maybe since there is no single drug that can alleviate the symptoms (let alone cure the damage), no one reports it. CB |

in the warnings for statins now it says to discontinue use if you have muscle pain after taking it.

I'm pretty sure my PN was caused by lipitor; however, it came on so gradually that when I finally realized I had a problem, so much time had elapsed since I began the lipitor that I didn't even consider it to be the cause. My daughter-in-law alerted me to it when she read an article in The Peoples Pharmacy column which appears weekly in our local newspaper.
I have since mentioned it to my first neurologist, a cardiologist, and of course my primary physician, all of whom "have never heard of statins causing PN." Joan |

I will never be on statins again. Don't care what happens to the cholesterol and lipids if I can't do Niaspan - my last resort.
If in fact I don't have Sjogren's and all my symptoms are realted to the SFSN, then I'd be fairly sure that it was the statins that caused this. Anybody have any ideas about how to contact Dr. Gupta, especially, as he's a neurologist; Dr. Oz or try to somehow find out if there's any well-known celebrity who has peripheral neuropathy? |

Just wanted to add here, drugs, diabetes, and malnutrition from food intolerances. My neuropathy was caused by not absorbing vitamins and minerals because of gluten. It seems PN often times is a secondary disease.
I do find there are lots of us out there, just not enough talk about the entire issue.

It is used in place of (or in addition to), statins in many cases. I was switched to it, when a statin caused ill side effects. I have been taking it for over 3 years, now. It does not affect my PN, & is not a cause of PN..
