Question Buttock Pain ?

Hi Everyone

This might sound like a silly question but I did not get any sense from my neuroligist so I am hoping someone could help me.

After cleaning my house on Monday and I did not do much really, just dusting and vacuuming, I started to get bad pain in my buttocks, if this another symptom of SFPN or just muscle pain. My pain already goes right up both feet and legs as well as pins and needles, I also get tingling feeling in my buttocks.

Does any one else get buttock pain and is it caused by PN.

Is it a sharp pain in your buttock?

Because you were doing some bending/standing/bending type movements, I wonder if you have sciatica?

If you can.......
* Lie on the floor close to a chair/sofa.
* Move your buttocks towards the chair, so that your buttocks are almost touching the seat.
* Bend your knees and rest your leg from the knee down, on the chair.

Your body should now be in a "Z" position.

If the pain eases, then you most probably have sciatic pain as this position removes the pressure on the spinal nerves.

Here's a link that describes sciatic nerve pain:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sciatica

PS. There are other conditions that will cause buttock pain, but sciatica is by far the most common reason.

I am dealing with butt pain right now. The gluteus maximus muscle can be very painful for so many of us. I get pain on both butt cheeks, usually not at the same time, thankfully. I sat on an ice pack last night which did help. As Koala says, there are exercises that help keep that muscle stretched.

Day before yesterday, I started to get this cold spot behind/below my right knee, the butt muscle was already hurting. It hit me yesterday afternoon, either my neuropathy was flaring causing a nerve to make the muscle spasm, or the muscle spasm was cauing nerve pain...which ever, I want it to stop!

I did just return from vacation, driving 800 miles there, then 800 miles back and I am sure that is part of the issue. I have lost a lot of weight this year and my butt has no padding anymore, so I have been having lots of issues with pain.

This is also very good as far as keeping muscle cramping in the back at bay if you have that problem at all. It also helps keep your back in line. I do it every night.

Vacuuming is very hard on the back.

With me, buttock pain is spondylitis. It is inflammation in the joint space between the hip and lower back. It can be especially difficult getting up from a sitting position.

Very hard, if not impossible, for me to get up. So I use knee pads (knees hurt otherwise) and I use two "very small" pillows stacked on top of each other in front of my recliner and get up via the recliner arms. (I crawl over to the recliner where the little pillows are stacked). Works out fine.

For the laying down, I use a chair that my husband pushes up to me and I get my legs on that. Otherwise, I can't do the couch thing or any other chair, etc. to lay my lower legs on. The chair has to be pushed up to me. Hope this makes sense

Hi,

Others have already mentioned sciatica, but am going to mention it too. I have had episodes of it for years, along with narrowing of the lumbar disc spaces that cause sciatic nerve impingement.

Should you decide to get checked out by an orthopedist, good luck with finding out what exactly is wrong.

Cheers,

Sheltiemom

Default You know.. it's just killing me not to "go there"

Isn't PN a total pain in the Butt? But then again, so are my kids!

Come on, someone had to!

I frequently get tingling and cold spots on the sides of mine. I haven't for a while, but last winter had a few months where my left side was playing games with empty spots on that side. Felt as if I had a frozen donut in my back pocket!

However, back injuries and strains can account for much of our pains due to imbalances in our stride, tripping and catching ourselves, etc. etc.

Good luck, and let us know what the results are if you find out.

Yes, I have the pain in the butt....

Believe it or not, there is a bursitis that can affect your butt....trochanteric bursitis can horribly inflame the butt muscles. Cortisone shot in hip>>>butt pain gone.

Then I have coccyx pain....nothing helps that but time and a donut pillow. I can bearly stand to sit or stand....when this is flared up, moving is awful.

There is a 'Piriformis' Syndrome....and some one mentioned Sciatica.

This is the first time I've heard of anyone with np complain of buttock pain, so I'm excited to know this. My buttock pain is only when I sit, and its closer to the rectum area than the muscles in check area, but it can be both. You mentioned sitting for long periods is painful and I totally understand as I have to take a break every hour or two. The pressure point also includes the backs of the thighs.
Does anyone else have similar problems????
