--I'd do the trip (and see if I could find a lot of fleece to wear; I stick to mostly combed cotton and fleece myself).

Not all pain clinics are familiar with neurolgical pain, as opposed to the nociceptive pain of trauma or inflammatory process--you want to make sure that you can describe the allodynic/parasthetic pain as distinctly as possible to the people at the clinic (as you've done here).
