Ware! The human Plasmaoids!???????
Scares the whatever outta me, at the same time? Like you w/your hens, I'm doing my best not to live in a sterile atmosphere. Doesn't mean, my house and I aren't clean? Just not SANITIZED to the pentultimate degree. My feelings have been that you must, expose yourself to some cruds or you will become super-sensitive to much more cruds. I know I get lots of the rite boosters from the IVIG, amen...etc!!? But, I should not have to live in a glorified bubble either. I agree with you? That a drug reaction is more likely to be a problem of sorts. Ergo? We must be careful with the devils we know? And, those devils we don't!!!! Don't know about you? But...each time a doc brings up other meds? I cringe and let them know that each new med could be a new problem, rather than problem solver.... Status quo= the devils I know? I'll take for now, UNTIL things change soo much that there are no other options. It's not that I'm against change, or even constructive change? It's just that I had the 'consequences that no one really knows about'! Especially in relation to the other meds one must take. I guess I should lay my head on the 'block' of Damocles and just get it over with or something..... Hugs to all! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

As MRSD said, this won't make news for a year or two.....when we get a major outbreak of some gram negative, bug, let's just pick on Salmonella, for the heck of it.
So, there are 2000 strains of Salmonella, most of them, harmless. 12 or so bestow nasty disease.....never the less, let's say, this plasmid gets into these 2000 Salmonella types....ugh...I would have a toxic waste dump in my backyard, and kiss my chickens goodbye... ![]() Seriously tho....this is nasty....not good...swill dwelling crud that will become everyday stuff for us. One antibiotic for it, is toxic to the kidneys and 'fell out of favor' which means they only use it if you are going to die anyway. My house is not sanitary clean by any means.....it never will be. ![]() I am now, not using just any shoe in the coop....now it is going to be farm boots....and this is a dinky coop. Chickens poo, A LOT, and while they sleep, too, unlike us...well, usually. ![]() Oh, I will be fine, since, I don't think my particular area has a case, but IL does....ALL US cases were CAUGHT in Asia...they are not saying how many die in Pakistan or India yearly from these antibiotic resistant infections. Heck, they probably don't know....since they likely just call it the obvious. Count me out on any foreign medical tourism, cosmetic. I am growing old and ugly, thank you very much.

India has a chronic problem with PLAGUE too. The Pneumonic type that is inhaled. So they use ALOT of tetracyclines there!

I can't even think about this. I used to be annoyed by people who bury their heads in the sand, but now I'm turning into one of them. I think it started with the BP Gulf disaster. Getting old and just can't worry about all the things I have no control over any more. But not proud of it.

Just heard a quick blurb on it on MSNBC, or at least they were talking about a "super-bug", which isn't really accurate if it's the same thing you guys are talking about.

I've heard about a superbug too on the news and in the newpaper. It is a bacteria that is widespread in India. They were saying that doctors should be checking people who have recently received medical care in India where it is widespread. It is in three states and Canada.
They don't know how many deaths it has caused. It is found in bacteria in the gut and in urinary infections. It occurred in people from California, Massachusetts, and Illinois. Three types of bacteria are involved. They want doctors to look for it especially in people who have traveled to India and Pakistan. And that it was spread from hand to mouth. Washing your hands is very important. And do not get antibiotics unless they are really needed for a problem. The three U.S. patients were not related but they all had traveled in India. I believe the one woman had been in a car accident in India and treated there. Maybe this is a different bug.
