Good luck to you.... don't forget the Vitamin C! 500mg-1000mg orally a day for at least 50 days! (for hand/wrist surgery/trauma to minimize RSD complications).

Most surgeries do go as planned. And medical types including doctors make the worst patients! LOL

Best wishes for a successful procedure & recovery. Just read up on the efficacy of a 50-day course of Vit. C and wish someone had mentioned it to me during my recent recovery from a wrist fracture of 9 months ago. God forbid surgeons should need to know much about supplements, rehab and avoidance of post trauma RSD.

Mrs. D, do you think mega dosing of C would help in my quest for restoration of normal function of the fingers on the fracture site? I know that such a question would be dismissed by my Wrist Surgeon/God.

I don't know Antonia... It is hard to say. The Vit C studies come from the UK... and were done several times in different situations, so I think they confirm each other. The benefits were seen because the Vit C was used right at the time of the surgery or trauma. I haven't seen similar studies for time frames long after that healing period.

Some used 500mg a day and some 1000mg a day.
Both seemed to work. Not 100% but pretty well ..good enough to pass statistical variances.

Antioxidants do help with healing. And Vit C is considered an antioxidant. Vit C is also involved with collagen.

You might want to look at my magnet thread. I've been using them on my stiff fingers and after only 2 days, I have significant improvement, and haven't needed them further!
Magnets do alot things for us... and they don't get much "press" either. I am using only high gauss very strong ones. I find only one properly placed works... I have lost two of them, and given one to a friend. But I have 7 left. They are very economical and they do work.

These are now on Amazon
http://www.amazon.com/Neodymium-Magn.../dp/B00269SDL6

I use these now, because they are "easier" and have the nice coating. I don't stick them on, but hold them where I want them for about 20 minutes. That is all I did for my hand.
You can do it watching TV or lying in bed, if you are having trouble falling asleep. If you want them on your back, you would have to resort to medical tape. I find these new ones so strong that wearing them all day is just not necessary.
(I got mine at Ebay, but I see now Amazon has them too).

You put the RED side towards the body. (the green side may increase pain sensations).

cyclelops,

Adding my best wishes and hope for a successful outcome and uneventful speedy recovery regarding your hand surgery.

Don't have to tell you - but remember to drink plenty of fluids with the extra Vitamin C.

When you say you have stiff fingers, do you mean that you cannot make a fist? That is exactly my problem. It is much too painful to close my fingers all the way to touch my palm and the stiffness prevents even trying to do so.

Going to Amazon now to look into the magnets. Thank you for all your help.

Yes, my middle finger (the "bird finger") resists making a fist.

Sometimes it does and others not. (and it hurts when trying)
This is relatively new, within the last 2 yrs.
