Hello,
For lack of a better term how many of us have their legs momentary go very stiff and rigid while resting or awaking from sleep. Is this is a way the brain makes sure we don't get blood clots in our lower extremities????? |

I don't from sleeping. But I get very stiff sitting at the computer!
I think our tendons get stiff with age. When I was in PT the therapist emphasized gentle stretching during the day to prevent tendons from getting too stiff.

I find I have to stretch constantly throughout the day or my lower legs and ankles really get stiff and sore. Sometimes it feels like the tendons and muscles along my ankles and back of my legs are pulling harder than the ones on the front of my feet and ankles and my feet will point.

I'm soooo glad to hear someone say something about the stretching. I have recently been stretching a lot during the day, especially my legs. I'm finding it hard to sit still very long. And I wake up multiple times thru the night with this uncontrollable feeling to stretch. And i mean s-t-r-e-t-c-h!!! It lasts for like 3-5 minutes before I feel better. I thought I was loosing my mind because this started before I was diagnosed so I had no idea why it was happening. LOL

I have been given a 'step' for under my desk at work, it has a
moveable top and I take my shoes and socks off and Swing my legs all day long, it is the only thing I get relief from- I am constantly stretching all lower leg muscles. Gets quite embarrassing if someone comes into my office in winter and I am in my bare feet lol. ![]() Last edited by malawigirl08; 09-25-2010 at 05:58 AM. Reason: spelling |

I find myself stretching quite often. For one thing it simply feels good. I assume it's my body's way of saying "use it or loose it". One thing is for sure, I've never heard of anything really bad coming from stretching. Best of luck to all of us!
