MRSD, you are so correct!! I am glad I am not the only one who feels this way.

I feel that docs are too much in bed with drug reps. Once I was sitting in the lobby to see my former primary...actually my primary left and I got this guy by default. I went to see him for my sleep issues and restless leg. There was the Zyprexa (olanzepine) Rep...all dressed up in her short skirt. The guy is in . Guess what he tried to give me....OK, a contraindicated medication for RLS...Zyprexa. What a dim wit.

(The guy was also involved in a pyramid scheme...oh, I take that back...his WIFE was....how many people did this guy swindle.)

Here are other things that worry me: As you said, not reporting side effects or adverse reactions...the system is set up for them NOT to do that.

Having a doc who is doing a case study...kinda worries me, if by chance they are watching ME to see if their new fangled treatment or NO treatment works.

Docs who tell you every time your lab work is off, not to worry about it....'lab error'.

Not watching drug interactions.

Polypharmacy.

Not testing for genetic drug polymorphisms.

Giving every one a tricyclic OR antidopaminergic...cuz 'every one gets sedated from anticholinergics and every one has too much dopamine'.

Not telling people just how horribly SICK one gets getting OFF a benzodiazepine BEFORE one goes on it.

I am tired of telling my docs about drug interactions, untoward side effects and my disease. I must say, that the only people who pay attention to this are anesthesiologists. They seem to have a grasp on what drugs do to people since they overdose people every day to sedate or render them unconscious for surgery.

It is like hitting your thumb with a hammer....just to see if it works to relieve your other pain....guess what???

For a few seconds it does!!



I think that 5000 year old mummy they found in the Tarim Basin had the right idea. Guess what they found in HIS pocket? Nope, it wasn't Zyprexa.
