the spine work and massaging you do sounds good to me. i would also like the chair with the rollers. I could never stand to have anyone even myself touch my feet. I have strong hands even with PN maybe i should rolf.Ha!

i dont think he should get theslender shaper. If the pain is down and he can live with that because of the increased numbness then i think he should leave well enough alone. I had an injection in the cervical spine a few years ago and that set off years of renewed misery in areas which had previoudly quieted down.

Do you know what he would say if I showed you the last paragraph of your post.? HE WOULD NEVER LET ME GET THIS GADGET FOR HIM!!!

I'm pretty new to the PN and things.. but it seems like there is a big difference between an injection and some vibrations that make the pain better or make the blood flow better. I could be totally wrong--but this seems pretty harmless.
I have read numerous cases of people's PN flaring up and getting worse due to injections in the spine.. epidurals and things like that. I refuse to try those, because so many people have had horrible problems after getting them. I don't think it's worth it, at least not for me.
But, I still don't see any reason that this gadget would be bad... it's not much different from massage or other things that Alan has already been trying and been successful with. In the end, I am not an expert and you certainly don't have to listen to my opinion or advice.. but I'd just go for it. If it turns out to make things worse or not help, it looks like it has other uses as well.

Melody didnt you have something used on you by a doctor or pt a few years ago that set off your pn?

Hey Smae, I've been thinking about those and wondering if they were an option for me. Where have you seen cases that turned out badly? I would like to know that side of it to inform my consideration.

Has anyone here had any experience with these? Seems like nothing (including supplements and meds discussed here) puts a dent in my pain. Well, except at the risk of sounding like a broken record, Ambien, which isn't an option in the day time.

Oh yeah, but that is COMPLETELY different than this item.

What happened to me about 2 years ago, was I went to my podiatrist and when he was doing my nails, he was finishing up smoothing the tips by using this (well, I don't know what it's called), but it's a little tool that sands away and smooths down the tips of the nails. When he put that thing on my toes, well I jumped out of the chair and that's when he said "Oh you feel this?? Good Good". I said "are you serious? get that thing away from me"

I wouldn't let him use it on me again FOR A LONG TIME. But.....after I began the Methyl B-12 every day, now when I go, and he uses that thing, no more jumping out of the chair. I also have complete feeling on the tips of my toes (I had originally (at Cornell) been told "you have the beginning of Neuropathy in the tips of the toes), they had used this filament on me and I could not feel it. I can only surmise that because I have been using the Methyl B-12 I have no zips or zaps and if I touch the tips of my toes, I feel them.

Only when the weather goes nuts, or drops from 80 to 50 or back, then I get a slight burn in my feet. But it doesn't last. I am vigilant about my diabetes and I take care of myself and I take my Methyl B-12.

Oh, and this is interesting. When Alan goes to our podiatrist, well the guy can use any device on him he wants to use. Alan has no feeling in his feet. I watch sometimes as he uses THE EXACT SAME planing tool he used on me, and Alan just sits there and laughs. I said "you don't feel that"? He says "I don't feel anything. I guess his nerves have died in the feet.

So this gadget Slender Shaper thing, well my thought was, if we put it on his calves, then the shaking, the oscillating of the thing would bring blood into his feet and for whatever time he uses it, he would not have pain between the toes (that is where he gets his zips and zaps), between certain toes on each foot.

But since he is not interested in this device, nor anything I wish to do to help him, I guess I'm going to shut my mouth and slither away.

I'm joking, of course, but that describes it perfectly, and the one your podiatrist used may have been the impetus for the pet version. I don't blame you jumping out of the chair; I wouldn't want it near my toes right now either. The rest of my feet aren't too bad, but those toes have developed an early warning sensory net of their own! We use the thing weekly on our therapy dog, but we introduced it the right way - some dogs won't tolerate it either.
