Default Lookie, new reason to throw your money away!

After stumbling upon this, I did a search here for this product, and didn't get any hits. But maybe it's not new to some of you:

http://www.neuroveen.com/?utm_campai...FYs65QodKlcoIg

Unlike most scams,er, product pitches, it seems they've actually listed the ingredients...and is one of them really lead? Oh heck, I say quit fooling around and go straight for the arsenic!

Shocked

Homeopathy is one of those "belief" therapies.

The dilutions in them are so great, there may only be ONE molecule left in the whole thing! If diluted enough they claim that the echo of the presence of the molecule has activated the WATER to be therapeutic!

This link gives some information:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homeopathy
Check out the dilutions!

Ogliotherapeutic? Just a big word for these products. It seems to be a new adjective applied to homeopathic products...and is rather dumbfounding IMO. Big words to impress people and get them to buy it.

Homeopathy relies on the placebo effect. It is not as popular here in US as it is in other countries. UK for example.

Loved your post. Bear in mind that there are lots of people out there that will spend their money and try it. Before my mother got alzheimers she was addicted to "as seen on tv". I used to ask her why she kept buying these things since when she would get them home they didn't work as shown on tv. Her answer was always the same, "well this one is different". Sad as it is, a multitude of people out there will gladly give up their hard earned cash for products that can't possibly work as well as they promise. Keep posting! Best of luck to all of us.

Did you see on the left, all of the other remedies they have? But why did they stop there? If you're just making stuff up, they sky's the limit. You'd think they would at least have a Viagra-type formula.

The thing that's not funny though, is that people who fall victim to these kind of things are often desparate for a cure or at least some relief, like us. It's not like you bought a gadget that claims to make pancakes, sausage, and coffee, and serve them to you in bed--letdown, yes, heartbreak, no.

I will confess to falling for Neurogen, but that was when my PN first started and I hadn't discovered all the fine people here at NT.

I searched NT for "weasel words" (words used in advertising, and/or to pad out sentences, that have no sustantial meaning, but sound like they do) but all I found was one post that mentioned their use.

The website mentioned in the OP is rife with them. I also noted that the ingredient list is entirely in LATIN! Who does that anymore except someone trying to obfuscate? (big word for 'confuse' chosen to make a wry point).

Since I find no article on weasle words (I'd be happy to write one but there are so many excellent ones already out there), I invite everyone who's not familiar with the term to do a web search on "weasle words -ferret" (without quotes) and have an enlightening and enjoyable read.

You are correct, people will believe anything works. Autoimmune Forums are full of people hoping some pill will solve all this mess. If only it was really so easy.

BTW, my mom spent $600-700 per month on TV junk, sweepstakes, psychic services and scams before we were able to reign in her checking account via a court order and POA assignment, (she also had dementia and did this just prior to diagnosis).....scams prey on vulnerable people. It is awful.

Lightbulb

Homeopathy always has historically used Latin.

Why? Well, the basic premise of homeopathy, is to treat a condition with "like" substances.

So poison ivy would be treated with poison ivy extract.

Fevers were treated with herbs that caused fever.

Flu is treated with http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oscillococcinum
"duck offal"-- good thing it is soooooo diluted!

When homeopathy reigned we were still having RXs in US written in Latin. Part of the mystique that doctors loved.
Handing over a piece of paper that was not legible and in a foreign language was part of the "belief" factor in medicine. (regular AND homeopathy).

Today, people are much more in tune with things, so keeping the toxins, like lead and arsenic --which are common in homeopathic pills, -- in a form that is not easily understood helps to sell the product. In fact some PN remedies use the Latin name for capsaicin for this reason. Many people don't like the burning of it so using the Latin name "hides" it in plain sight.
This one is often used:
C. chinense

Yes I think a "weasel word" thread would be fun... Please put it up on the Subforum though, where it is more easily found.

Reading up on it now...I knew the concept, just didn't realise it had an official name!

As Wiki states in it's opening sentence on WW, "Weasel words is an informal term..." I don't know if there's an official name. While bearing some similarities to a legal/advertising concept known as "puffing" (Wiki describes it under "puffery") there are distinctions. Search "weasel words puffing" (without quotes).
