Do you know with r-lipoic can help with neuropathy from physical injury?
my main symptom is stiffness at the right foot, burning either hot or freezing.
im taking B12, B1 which has been helping
im thinking to take cayenne too, read that can help nerve regeneration
these supplements can be expensive, so i want to try something that might help in my case. I tried alpha lipoic and didnt make any difference, just for pocket
thank you
lots of love
I am thinking to help with healing from injury you need to provide the building blocks for nerves... which is good fats.
Omega-3 fats, flax oil and fish oil. The DHA in the fish oil helps with building membranes.
B12, folic acid also help, along with a Bcomplex 50mg and a good magnesium supplement . The B6 and the magnesium helps the Omega-3s get metabolized properly. These are the basic repair nutrients, but you can add whatever else you want.

You will also need to see if your trauma has led to an RSD situation, and the burning/freezing thing might be a part of that.
Is there discoloration or swelling in your damaged foot?
Our RSD forum here has pictures on a sticky link to show what some of the members' RSD looks like. It can take alot of time for nerves to grow back. Mine took years in my surgical foot.

And to think I can get a 2 month supply at CVS for 18.00, AFTER a 40K work-up. Kind of makes me laugh......in a way.
Do you take any other supplements?

We have a new thread on the newer form of lipoic acid, which many of us find much much better than the older alpha form .

On another forum I hang on, those who take ALA say the same thing, symptom wise. It comes from the nerves re-generating. I took it for about 6 months, it didn't do anything, no extra pain, no improvement. No increase in glucose either.

Help Dangerous supplement?

I am taking alpha lipoic acid for peripheral neuropathy. My pins and needles are getting worse. Can anyone tell me if there is a medical reason for this? Is there any real cause and affect?

Question

Welcome to NeuroTalk:

It is a good idea to make an introductory post here on the PN forum about yourself. There are over 100 causes of PN, and not all of them respond to lipoic acid.

Can you tell us your details and medical history? Age, gender,
when this started, what you eat, what drugs you take or have taken (including OTC and antibiotics), lifestyle and work/hobbies to see if you are exposed to toxins, there.
How and when the pins and needles started, and whether they come and go or are there all the time. As many details as you can remember, especially what was going on with you when this started--illness or vaccine use.

Then perhaps we can connect the dots for you to tailor your options.
