Unhappy Prozac for Neuropathy

[SIZE="2"][/SCan anyone tell me if they have ever taken Prozac to treat their Neuropathy? I've taken several different meds, and I was on Cymbalta until my ins decided they don't want to cover it. I've read so many things about Prozac and I'm afraid to take it, to which I discussed with my dr, who still wants me to try it. Just worried about all the side affects.
Thanks IZE]

Hi, Kimber. I was on prozac for 20 years prior to developing sfn. My neurologist took me off prozac and tried zoloft. Currently taking effexor. I never had any side effects at all on the prozac. My neuro took me off prozac because he felt it didn't have any pain killing properties for my neuropathy cocktail of drugs.

kimber,
I tried Prozac (fluoxetine) for my neuropathy because it had helped with some neurological symptoms I had about 10 years earlier. It did not help the neuropathy. A psychologist we had at one of our neuropathy meetings told us that "older" antidepressants like Prozac don't tend to work very well for pain. But I would not be afraid to try it. If I recall, I think I only experienced a minor sexual side effect from it.

I took Prozac for years before I had PN. I never had any trouble with side effects. I'm on Cymbalta now, since Feb., but it is not working very well anymore. Prozac is the same class as Cymbalta so it won't hurt to try if Cymbalta worked for you.
