Default PN Flare & whiplash

Is there a typical timeline for a flare? I thought I was getting better and I have on and off days but my whiplash pain seems to have come back and with it a painful PN flare. when the whiplah settled so did the flare though I did have residual allodynia all over even though flare subsided.

I am on vitamin C, fishoil, and grapeseed. I also take voltren and panadol. What else can I do?

The whiplash brought on the pn flare as I mentioned in earlier post.

Thank you

PS. Is a flare an aggrivation of the nerves, or is more damage being done??

Hi Aussie, I think it is very hard to compare differant PN cases, so I can only share my experience of recovery, the longer I went completely symptom free the less severe any flare was, so seeing you at a stage of improvement but were still having some on and off days then I do think/hope a flare only is very likely, a whiplash would be a dramatic shock to the nervous system aggravating the already recovering nerves, a flare to me was normally only an aggravation or short periods of increased symptoms were only the nerves trying to reconnect again.

take care
Brian

Brian so nice to hear from you again.

I never understood what a flare was. I have PN now for 6 years. I had 3 very bad years and 2.5-3 virtually painfree years because all the nerves had settled down finally. So now it feels like I am back to my first 3 years. You know if you pull my hair I get nerve pain in my arms, so I guess the nerves in my back (from whiplash)are sending signals to all the nerves in my body making them angry. Lots of theories I have here. I just don't know how long these flares take to settle down.

Thank you Brian!!

Aussie

Aussie,
I bump my toe and my heels tingle.
I think I have about a zillion of these things that don't make sense.
My flares can last from a day to a month and no rhyme or reason why they show up most of thew time.
Other times I can pinpoint the trigger.
We just have to bite the bullet and hope that the current flare will be short and not too severe.

Default Aussie? Could it be that... you 'overdid' it?..

Just once? Thus causeing a set back? I suspect that you've been far more careful than most...given all you've been thru, but it is THE question to be asked.
I too, have been thinking about 'flares' lately? As, some stressors and weather..mainly allergens are at a hi time now. As they were the last time I had a major flare 2 years ago. My own 'flares' simply just 'come on' and get in that swampy cycle no one ever wants to experience!
I''m thinking that my allergies, are now going auto-immune to any degree is scaring me silly. So I keep researching [and, not finding much key to the 'combo'].
Most important I've found, is to just CHILL when things start to crank up and try and get to see the rite docs at the rite times to really MAKE the connections. All, far easier said than DONE! Whew!
Hugs !!!!!!!!! & hope truly! - j

Hello,
When I started the Methadone it wasn't long before there was a decrease in the flareups, although the legs have gotten so weak I use a wheelchair the past year has been basically flareup free, I guess this is due to more dead nerves, the pain is just a dull burning numbness with extreme tightness in the muscles.

It is also entirely a possibility that your pain is solely due to the auto trauma and associated injuries and does not represent a "flare-up" of your PN. A combination of the two is also a possibility I suppose...

This is also true but possibly a combo of both. The whiplash has set off neuropathy pain from my toes to my head. My spine is very sensitive. Iguess since the spine connects with the peripheral system any trauma there could cause the peripheral network to amp up to???? I am only guessing here Dubious and not 100 percent sure either.
