I have been diagnosed with PN. Lately, I have been having cramps in calves of leg especially at night. Is this part of PN or is it something else? I do stand a lot during the day.

Hi January,
I, too, get occasional cramping in my feet and legs. I never know when it will happen. Often I cramp during exercising and it does happen sometimes at night. Seems to be the PN. |

i go through periods ot time waking with tremendous cramps in my legs. i am going through such a period now. Taking magnesium helps, as well as gatoraide. I dont know if it has anything to do with involvement of motor nerves in some PN or if it is something like the double crush phenomena where because your nerves in one area are damaged nerves in other areas can be damaged more easily and to a greater degree than would be possible for people without PN or if it has nothing to do with PN at all.

Have you tried epsom salt baths? I was having a hard time with similar and was suggested that though I am on the one person who does not like them. A warm bath though can help. I also agree with magnesium. Do you drink enough water and eat foods with potassium? Have you talked to yoru doctor about muscle relaxers? My pain doctor said that this is connected to the PN but who knows. I would get blood work done too just to rule out other things going on. Feel better

Magnesium really helps...I had this problem over a decade ago, and that is what stopped it for me. I've searched and posted about magnesium every since then.
http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread1138.html You could also try the lotion form which a poster shared with us recently. It also works for me: http://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/catalog/sh...new_crumb=true It is also in the stores. I've noticed this website has fluctuating prices. The lowest I've seen is 5.99. It seems to go on sale often.

I have terrible foot cramping at night unless I take magnesium. You might give it a try.
Good luck. |

Magnesium is one easy solution to try. Simple dehydration and/or low potassium can also cause leg cramps.
