Has anyone tried the supplement Nerve Support? I was on their site and wondered if it is a total sham or can really help? Just curious!

Directions to take with food.... NOT IMO... the methyl B12 is not absorbed well with food. It needs an empty stomach.

The D3 extremely low, B2, B6, and folic acid can come from any multivitamin.

You can buy the same thing --Benfotiamine and methylcobalamin separately for less money. You can adjust your own dosing too more easily when they are separate.

Thanks Mrs. D, I guess I am not sure what vitamins to take. My B12 was fine on my blood test. Not sure about my vitamin D. It is all overwhelming to me.

May I ask....what is "fine"? Doctors will tell you fine/normal when you test at 200... because lab ranges in US are old, and not up to date. You should be at 400 at least or maybe more.

Please check that out. Vit D is very important today because of all the new research coming out.

Call your doctor back and get your numbers. That is the only way you can know if it is "fine" or not.

Pardon me for jumping in....mrsD, I am trying to find out about what is happening with vit d research, hard to find the reliable info, lots of "urban legends". In 2007 my vit D level was so low it was not measurable and I was treated for several weeks, but never it was never followed up (doc assumed it would normalize, I did not realize how important it was). Jan 2011 level 19 ng/ml range 30-100. Started on and continue 1000 ius daily. Told it was normal in May, waiting for my records to be given to me (prob end of month). I eat a good balanced diet, go out into the sun, do not take any meds that would interfer with absorbtion. Until I found this forum, I had a "so what" attitude.

Mrs. D I checked on my B12 and it is 474. I didn't see a listing for my vitamin D. I just saw calcium at 9.8 mg. I am going to be treated for possible infection in my vertebrae. I am getting a biopsy tomorrow and they said even if it is negative they will probably treat me with an IV from home for 6 weeks. I am scared of going on antibiotics after hearing the stories on this board. What do you think? I guess they will decide which drug after the biopsy results. I asked him if my neurological symptoms were connected to the infection and he said no. I am frustrated. I see a neurologist on the 20th of this month. Danielle

The most likely antibiotic for a bone infection is clindamycin (Cleocin). This is not implicated in PN.

But you have every right to ask what you will be given.

Perhaps they will culture the biopsy and find the antibiotic to fit what shows up?

There are so many IV choices... and the bottom line with this serious thing...is that the risk in this case is high, and you will have to take what they give you. But you have every right to ask and discuss any fluoroquinolone like Cipro or Levaquin or Zyvox or Flagyl, and see if there are alternatives. There may be not. All three of these drugs are implicated in PN generation.

If your vertebra is consumed by infection...you will be in a far worse place than having PN. So the doctors will have to weigh benefit vs risk, in this case.

Normal is not 30 anymore. Normal is now 50. But it is your decision if you want to increase from 1000IU daily. 1000IU D3 for every 10 units you need to increase. You can figure that from your test results, which you don't have exactly. D3 taken daily is better than the old RX D2. Much better and more effective.

One does not benefit from the new cancer prevention effects of D, until you reach 70 in your testing.

I have always been a believer in the importance of fueling our systems. I was fortunate to have a NP who started me on B12 because my MCV wa elevated even tho' my B12 level was 583. She even told me to get sublingual.
