Those of you who are taking Nortriptyline, what dosage are you taking and do you take it all at once? And is it helping much? Thanks.

I've just started taking this and I'm at a very low starting dose(10mg x2 per day) but I have a question regarding the taste of this stuff. Does anyone else find the taste of this med very strong and nasty?

I have the same dosage and am supposed to be on the three a day. Do you take all three at once? Does it make you sleepy? I think it has made me very constipated. I have far less nerve pain in my lower leg but that could be due to the AFO I am now wearing. I do feel more energy which shows I was probably a bit depressed also and did not know it.

I'm taking the minimal amount(10mg); the instructions I got was to stay @minimal unless the additional doses provided were actually needed. This is a 5 week regimen, I'm almost done with week 4.

When I was taking it, I worked up to 100mg. 75mg at bedtime and 25mg in the morning -- or it might have been 50 mg at bedtime, 25 in the morning, and 25mg in the afternoon. I was taking this along with gabapentin.
It seemed to help, but after a year and a half or so, it seemed like it was losing effectiveness for me so I tapered off and we moved me onto Cymbalta for a while. I ended up with profound constipation with this drug, and was taking a stool softener every day -- which, given that it says to check with your doctor after 10 days, worried me. But the docs said it was fine, just important to check with a doc in case there was an undiagnosed internal blockage, but the daily stool softener wasn't a problem since they knew what the reason for it. I also ended up being pretty sleepy. (But since that gives me an excuse to drink more coffee, I'm okay with that. ![]() |

I had to stop taking this med as I was too sedated, all the time, and sleeping all the time. I don't miss the horrible

![]() One thing I did notice was just how powerful a sedative these are. I once bit through trying to halve the tablet but crushed it all by mistake and the area on my tongue went numb instantly so you could imagine it would numb the brain in a similar way |
