I'll be back! LOL
I do sign on at the free wifi at the laundromat...but that is only once in a while. You can PM me or leave Vistor messages, and I will get to them when I can...it is easier to find those than read the board. I'll put Visitor messages up too, about any unusual adventures we have! ;) For those who don't know...just click on my name and it will take you to my profile. The Visitor messages are there. We go to town for food etc and the free wifi. But that takes about 1/2 day in good weather to accomplish. If it is rough in Lake Huron, we don't as a rule come in to town. For the newer members here... our summer place on a family owned island does not have running water, central heat or electricity. We do have a generator, a small one. But it can always get finicky and not start or need work. While it is beautiful and full of nature our little island is also rustic. (has an outhouse, for example)...;) You can get an idea from my profile page, photo album. |
Have a good time up there--
--and no toe-stubbing on the rocks. :D

HEHEHEH... yeah Glenn... I have two walking poles up there and some canes. Even the woods is difficult.
Taking my Lidoderms, just in case too! ;) |
Our vet gives us Rx pills for our beagle when we go to the ocean (a 3-1/2 hr trip)
so that she'll settle down and relax/sleep most of the way. She doesn't travel well and throws up if not given something to calm her down. Maybe that is a thought? (Just one of he benefits of a rescue dog from a laboratory cage, she came with a lot of baggage-but she's got a sweet temperament & is very loving.) |

Oh, the throwing up.... I would DEMAND medication! Our cats have never thrown up. We withhold most of the food the morning we leave. (not all just allow a little bit) They do moan and groan sometimes... "are we there yet?" and When coming home they can smell the change in the air and get very excited starting about 20miles from our home. If Weez is terrible during this trip, I will DEMAND our new Vet helps next time. One of our MS posters uses Amitriptyline cream on the ears...for her male cat to calm him down during his illness attacks. I am going to investigate this perhaps. If Weez settles, then we won't need anything. Oreo is pretty good, if she is with my hubby... to whom she is mega attached. We have walkie talkies to communicate to each other in the cars -- they are Sony and very strong with about a 1.5mile range. I am going to try both cats in my car and if Oreo cries too much we'll stop at a rest area and I'll give her to hubby. I want Weezie to see Oreo is coming too.. and learn that fact for the traveling. It might help. |
This sounds idilic, have a wonderful time, and don't think too much about us left in be rat race. I wouldn't want to return.

Mrs D I am sorry for your loss. My mom just lost her dog which was like a child to her. Animals become part of the family and it is so sad when they leave us. I hope that the new kitty is ok in the car.
I remember this vacation from last year. I give you credit for living so in nature. I think I would last 24 hours before heading to a hotel. What made you choose a place with no electricity? Is it to get more in touch with nature and the simple things? Sorry just curious. I hope you have fun and stay safe |

I've always been a nature person. But going up there on our honeymoon in 1968 was quite the shock. As luck would have it in early August, they recorded a record low of 35 one night. That was my initiation. Back then it was really something! No cell phones to call for help, either. Living like that you learn to depend on yourself and develop skills, that we do not have living in the comfort in the city. My son grew up there, my husband too, and his father. It makes you a different person. More self sufficient, as you can tell from my postings sometimes. ;) I worked on the house which is quite nice and made it a bit more comfortable. We just bought a new propane refrigerator last summer, which was made in Sweden. Here it is installed in the shed: It is quite nice and now I will have ice cubes! The old one from 1935 just couldn't keep cold anymore. It was pretty expensive being imported and unusual etc. Getting it delivered was tough and costly, and then getting it out on the island our friends helped bring it on a barge and helped install it. I chose the version with the larger freezer, so we could keep meat for at least a week or two. It runs on propane. It is quiet and lovely up there. But 2 summers ago it was so cold with that strange jet stream. We had to come home early. If the outside temps stay in the 40's I lose my enthusiasm very quickly.;) |
Update:
We are leaving early tomorrow (Monday) morning.
We had a snafu... our older cat seemed ill on Fri so we took her to the vet. He found a growth on her thyroid! Her left eye was watering too. So I worried about her teeth, or an infection. Which were thankfully not the case. The Vet said the watering eye goes with the nodule on the thyroid in cats, which may cause lacrimation. So we got the test results back on Sat afternoon, and they were NORMAL... so we don't have to take medications with us yet for her. When we get back I'll take her for another opinion at a more comprehensive vet...where we take Weez. Her other results were normal too...so I am relieved! I guess the heat is just getting to her...lots of her fur has fallen out and she looks thin and gaunt. She had porked up over winter... doing what I call revenge eating when we got the kitten in January. Now she has lost that weight and maybe a bit more besides? So the weather looks clear, and we are almost done packing. Today we will load up the cars...not an easy or fun task. I hope everyone here has a nice August. Maybe the major heat is over ...I hope for everyone's sakes!;) |
Have a good & safe vacation :grouphug:
