After 15 years of weird and wonderful sensations caused by PN I have been treated to a new one, the tops of my feet feel as though they are in a vice- like grip and a ton of bricks sat upon them. Does anyone else have this crushing sensation?

Yep. Sure do. What causes it for me is when the edema (swelling) goes down into the foot and sits on the top of it. Feel the top of your foot and see if it's softer, like there's some liquid in there. I wear compression socks, and when I don't wear them for a day or two (at most before this happens), it feels like a brick landed on my foot. They're medium compression, 20-30, and it pushes the fluid up to the top of your sock line. If I get too much swelling, I take a diuretic and pee it out all night. But yeah, it feels like a crushing sensation. That sucking sound we hear is our lives going down the drain..

i get that crushing feeling from time to time. sometimes as Brue says when my feet are exceptionally swollen, they are always swollen. other times i get the sensation when they arent any more swollen than normal. overall i would say it happens more often when they are more swollen.

I do not have swelling, but I do have the crushing sensation. It feels like my legs and feet are going through an old fashioned washer wringer.
This is a daily component of my PN, and probably my most painful symptom. It is usually worse at night, but can start in the morning. It seems unrelated to anything I do, and "feels" like it is coming from the bones themselves. My legs are numb to just above the knees though, so all sensations are untrustworthy.
Oxycodone with the gabapentin provides enough relief for me to function.

I have small and large fiber hereditary neuropathy, primarily axonal, with visible muscle wastage.

I was diagnosed with radiculopathy recently,.Im not even sure if I have been diagnosed properly as far as the cause. But being nerves all the same,.a few times at the end of the day sometimes one or both feet feel like that,.allmost feels something droppeed on them and they are broken or something. then the next morning that feeling usually is gone.

I get neuropathy symptoms from my wretched COPD anticholinergic med and thats one of my main symptoms. It feels like my ankles are being crushed in a vice and feet and ankles both are being crushed by my body weight. It does feel like its coming from the bones. My ankles swell a little, not sure about the feet.

I don't know how this relates to you guys but as betsy2u mentioned, nerves are nerves. When I was getting burning pain icepacks made it hurt worse but ice seems to provide relief from this pain. I don't know if it would work for any of you as I don't seem to have any actual nerve damage. I hope you find something thst helps.

This is the same question I was going to ask about this morning! Thanks malawigirl08 for stating it the way you did. I have had the "vise" like feeling in both feet for years. No swelling-ever. Just had my followup with neuro last week and am starting gabapentin this week. Has anyone found anything that will give some relief from this GRIP?? I find it is the worst when I get up in the morning, but continues all day, everday, 24/7. My numbness is now just about up to my knees and arms almost to elbows. Will the gabapentin help with what I call my "popcorn" legs? It truely looks like popcorn popping under my skin up and down both legs to the knees. It drives me NUTS-

I have found that oxycodone 7.5/500 twice a day dampens it enough for me to function. I do not think the gabapentin ( 600mg 3 times daily) helps with this kind of pain.

My main symptoms up until now have been burning, electric shocks, insects crawling and my toenails being pulled off. Gabapentin worked to start with although I didn't feel good on this med. I also had to keep increasing the dosage until I changed over to Lyrica. I find this much more tolerable and more effective.
Good luck, everyone has different experiences with meds.
