I think when you are distracted enough, your brain does not pay attention to pain signals the same way.

On vacation this summer, the first 10 days were very stressful for me since our lovely cat was sooooo suddenly ill from an injury.

I was so focused on her 24/7, my feet never ever hurt. Then after she recovered, the burning came BACK... I was very disappointed. It could have been all the cortisol my body was pumping out from the stress, or it could have been my not paying attention to anything much but to her!

Thank you, yes. She has recovered. But it was a horrible bite from a mink (most likely), that turned into a huge infection,
and at one point she went into a coma! Getting her hydrated was a challenge, but the Vet up there was so nice to us.
We had to take her in twice, but her crisis on a Sat night was something I hope no one has to go thru ever!

I have not had this exeprience but that is great you did. A thought came to mind if you have tried guided imagery or meditation? Or even biofeedback? If it was distraction like Mrs D stated some of these may also help you distract and also calm your body.
Mrs D glad your cat is doing better.
