HI Everyone,
I am wondering if any of you have erver experieinced double vision when waking in the mornig. My husband usually wakes me by turning on the TV in our room. For a bout a month now when I open my eyes I see two of everything on the TV screen. Now that I think about it I never looked around the room to see if it happens everywhere but I imagine it would. It does not go away until I sit/stand up. Any suggestions? My husband keeps saying it is normal and happens sometimes but I never had it before. I appreciate any information from all of you.

It may be due to low blood sugar on arising. Sometimes I get flickering in my eyes, when I first wake up.

Some drugs really affect the muscles that focus the lens of the eye, and with age, this is slower to accommodate.

Also if you sleep with pressure on eye, that eye may have trouble focusing at first when the pressure is released.

Dry eye? Dry eye can affect focusing too. When the cornea dries out, there can be blurring. Oxygen gets to the cornea from the tears, where it dissolves and then goes into those tissues.

The fact that it resolves, it a good sign. Continued problems should be seen by an eye doctor. And next check up report this to him/her too.

Some autoimmune issues affect the retinal attachments. But that would continue throughout the day. We have a friend with this. It is called Uveitis. If you are concerned, seeing an eye specialist is a good idea.

Yes I get it I assume from the meds but only when Im in doors for long periods. 2 or 3 days away from the tv and lap top and its gone

I guess my suggestion would be to look around the room to find out for sure! Look at some things at different distances, from close-up to infinity, to see if it makes a difference or has any effect. My question is, how long between when you wake up and notice it and when you get up and it goes away? Are we talking seconds, minutes, an hour?

I've had it happen, but the duration is usually pretty short cuz I don't lie there long upon waking. I've had seldom occasions when it's lasted beyond that - up to a few hours, but there's usually some explanation when that happens. I asked my optometrist about it, and after examining my eyes, he seemed to think it was middle age-related (as long as it didn't stick around).

Thanks Everyone, thanks so the information. Dr. Smith, I notice it as soon as I open my eyes. I don't stay in bed very long. I would say 5 minutes. Today I stayed possibly ten to see if it went away and it didn't. I guess at 53 it is time to admit to being middle aged so I could fit in your doctors category. I'm not really worried about it yet. I just wanted to see if anyone else experienced it. I tried to look it up this morning and found alot on MS, so I stopped looking. I was just seen at the eye doctors about a month ago. I think they would have seen something. Thanks again!
