Default Acetyl L Carnitine
Are Acetyl Carnitine and Acetyl-L-Carnitine the same supplement? If not, what is the difference?

Yes, they are the same.

There are two basic types of carnitine:

1) L-carnitine: is the original and less well absorbed.

2) the Acetyl L-carnitine has an acetic group attached which improves its absorption in the GI tract. Also the acetyl is eventually cleaved off, and used to make acetylcholine which is an important neurotransmitter.

So over time the Acetyl is preferred now. It is just a pain to type in the L in the middle, IMO.

My doctor has me taking Carniclear. Liquid. It is really good.

Thanks, Mrs. D! I understand now. You brought up an interesting point in #2, which I was completely unaware of. My acetylcholine production was purposely halted through injections, but I had a systemic adverse reaction, thus resulting in my PN/AN, and numerous other problems. Under the circumstances, do you think that it would be helpful for me to take the Acetyl L-Carnitine?

Can you explain this a bit more? What kind of injections?
How can you have halted acetylcholine production. This is a main neurotransmitter in the brain and spine.
