Hi there--I'm new here and only 30 and wondering in the last two years what your progress has been as your symptoms sounds very familiar. After 9 months of symptoms I was diagnosed through Nerve Conduction Study to have idiopathic peripheral neuropathy. Would love an update!

Default Hi Dr. Smith and gang

Welcome Sara to Neuro Talk. Hope you get all the information you need and make a few friends.

Dr. Smith I am going away for a bit of an adventure. Won't be on line for a few months.
Wanted you to know about a new or old therapy I tried that works. Yes alternative therapy. My ulner nerve is squished all up and down my arm from too many years of work, that is why the arm stopped working. No surgery for this as the compression on the nerves is from my back all the way to my fingers. The joints and muscle, scar tissue pressed on the ulner nerve.
I have been taking a rather painful type of massage called Neuro Massage. I do not know how mashing on nerves that already hurt, works. but good grief it does!!!!!!! After two months my arm is much better, and I can function again. There was one point I was afraid I would have to go to assisted living as my arm was that bad. I had never heard of this type of therapy for nerve damage. I am bringing this up, as no one every mentioned it here either.

I see a physiatrist. After 6 doctors she got me off the gerbil wheel of going from doctor to doctor, all knew something was wrong, but didn't know what to do about it. The Physiatrist did.

Also my country pays for the tests to do the DX, will give me drugs, lots of drugs and shots into the nerve, but not for the therapy that actually makes the arm functional again. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND this medical system we have in place. Why the tests?, and then not pay for the cure?. All I would be doing is treating symptoms, pain and I would have lost my arm and hand function. Why isn't that enough for my medicare to pay for it? Why keep me going to the doctor for shots and drugs when I can be cured? How is this good medicine??????????

Anyway the long and short of all this is... people....try alternative therapy even if you do not believe in it. It is worth a shot to try if there is any hope of improvement. Of course don't go to snake oil salesmen. I am just saying that in my case something I never heard of before, helped me 100%.

Much love to all on this site. I hope to return in Feb. I will continue to keep NT in my prayers. ginnie

Have a lovely holiday ginnie. I am so very happy to hear of your arm improving so much via massage therapy. I'm a huge believer in alternate medicine, and love hearing positive outcomes like yours, which inspire others to seek out other ways to tackle their issues.

Have a very happy Christmas, and we'll see you in the new year.

Cheers!
