Hello all,
Sad to be here, but glad to see lots of support. I'm a 32 year old female who within the last 4 months has been experiencing wonderful neurolgical problems. Basic progression was burning in feet, followed by numbness (only the surface of the skin), numbness moved up legs, then affected hands and arms, face and tongue also have altered sensation. I also have weakness that comes and goes in all of my limbs. EMG, spinal tap, MRI of brain, c-spine and t-spine all normal including a battery of blood work. The neurologist i have been seeing just wants to "wait and see" what happens. I am not comfortable with that, seeing as how I seem to be getting worse instead of better. I suspect that I could have small nerve neuropathy since I still have feeling but lessensed sensitivity, but so far no cause in sight. According to things I've read in the forum, there's still a lot of things that could be checked. I just really want a thorough evaluation and would be willing to travel anywhere in the US (Utah is not known for great neurologists). I've been thinking about going to the Mayo clinic or a special clinic for neuropathy. Anyone have good experiences? I just have SO much fear and anxiety right now (definitely not helping the situation). I just want to be able to take care of my kids 5,4,1. I think getting a diagnosis would really help me instead of just assuming the worst. Suggestions would be helpful! Thanks so much! Marcy |

Welcome to NeuroTalk:
We really need you to go back to when this started, and look at what you were doing, etc then. Drugs, vaccines, illnesses, traumas, etc. Dietary habits, any tests you have had so far? Exposure to chemicals, new home with formaldehyde? Well water? solvents, stripping antique wood, pesticides, gardening, exterminators ? What blood work? Did you get B12 and Vit D measured? You need to know the numbers of the results, so don't accept "normal" from the doctor. If you are going to try and find a trigger and try to heal up we need more information to point you in a useful direction.

Marshaybear--
I'm in the west as well and had the same problem of lack of diagnosis till quite recently. I would recommend you check out the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix (affiliated with St. Joseph's Hospital). It is a well-known neurological specialty center, that has been around for 50 years. My neurologist there has been very thorough and analytical in his approach, not dismissive (like some of the others I went to earlier who kept telling me all was normal...). Good luck. |
