So I am dying to find other people who have this same odd symptom and hear what their dr's have said about it.
At night primarily, my legs start feeling very warm. Not hot to the touch, and not burning. More like from my knee down, its 120 degrees and 100% humidity in the room. You know, like those hot summer days when you just can't get comfortable at all? I move them on the sheets and they feel cooler for about 10 seconds, then feel warm again. I end up feeling very agitated and moving them around a lot. I also do feel like I need to move them (similar to what some people with RLS describe). I can't fall asleep with this and it will tend to subside at around 2:30 - 3:00am. The warmness thing also comes along with frequent trips to the restroom often. I am taking gabapentin which does seem to help. I do have some other PN symptoms such as a slight tremor in my thumb, paresthesias (buzzing in my feet), zaps and stabbing pains (tollerable, thankfully), jolts (rare), and my legs itch like crazy at night. Anyone else identify with this warm legs deal? |

I would look to what you are eating.
Does this happen when you lie down in the daytime to rest or take a nap? Or only at night? Sometimes when circulation is poor during the day, the legs will be cooler than normal. When you lie down, 1/2 of your body is on the mattress, so things get warmer just from that. A good example is when you go out in the snow and get cold. Ears and hands then may warm up quickly inside, and then feel hot and sting some. They may turn red too. Well, the legs can do this if the circulation is poor during the day while walking around. We have a thread here about circulation: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread115853.html Also some sensations are ignored when you are up and about. When you quiet down, you can feel them then. Look to your diet at dinner to see if anything there may be causing this. Alcohol is a biggie. MSG is another. Foods that release histamine --can also cause this: http://www.michiganallergy.com/food_and_histamine.shtml You can try things with high menthol content on your legs, to see if that helps. I like Biofreeze, but others use other menthol products here like Icy Hot. This can cool them off.

I have suffered this for around 5 years and my PN has no known cause, earlier this year I changed my meds to Lyrica and the burning has subsided.
